but sharing about overall experience, I'm really happy with FP5. It works flawlessly with my 4k monitor and docking station. I can just plug it and use from mouse/keyboard/monitor. That's just awesome. FP4 was probably working similarly with FHD but I don't have any low resolution screen anymore, so I never tested it (I just can confirm that it couldn't drive 4k resolution). I just hope FP7 will have fully fictional USB-C again (as FP6 allows only charging, no docking capabilities!!!)

Why is upstart still a dependency in lomiri-ui-toolkit and how do you go around it?

@lduboeuf Thanks, will give it a try. Hope it works on the host machine as well rather than needing a connected device because I am using it as a desktop. I read the documentation, it seems it's meant to be used for building packages for Lomiri, not working on Lomiri itself?

When you go from a keyboard/mouse interface to something that can only be driven by fingers, you are most likely having to lose some functionality. The hand is a marvelous tool, but to manage a computer it's not always the most efficient. It's not for nothing that voice control has been added more often to phones than traditional computers. Yet clearly for the newer generations the classic computers are almost a curiosity from older times, the phone has won, warts and all.

As kugiigi says, Ubuntu Touch is using an obsolete version of Mir (1.8) with dated Wayland support. Also, most of the Wayland support in Lomiri comes from Mir (the rest comes from Mir's support for "custom" Wayland extensions). The consequence of that is that there's no much prospect of improving the Wayland support in Ubuntu Touch without first updating it to use the current version of Mir. The good news is that is work currently going on to get Lomiri working with the current version (2.20) of Mir. As of today this works on the machines of the developers involved and is close to landing in both the Debian and Fedora archives. However, it will still take significant time to get the rest of Ubuntu Touch migrated over to this newer stack. That is probably the task that can most benefit from help at present. After all that is completed, it should be possible for Ubuntu Touch to track the current version of Mir, and Wayland support will follow Mir. It is also possible to contribute to Mir's Wayland support, but that won't help Ubuntu Touch at present.

@shishimaru Lomiri runs on Mir as its Wayland compositor. Xephyr as I understand it is an X server. I doubt you can get Lomiri run on it. I'm sure it's technically possible but not easy. XWayland won't help since it's for running X apps on Wayland and not the other way around

In case somebody arrives here with not changeable scaling issues, I want to add another solution: If you have the file ~/.config/systemd/user/lomiri-full-greeter.service.d/override.conf, it may look like this: [Service] ExecStartPre=/usr/bin/dbus-update-activation-environment --systemd GRID_UNIT_PX=21 It overrides the deviceinfo value of GRID_UNIT_PX. You could remove the override or adjust it to your needs.

However, this commit suggests this may no longer be the case in 6.6.0. I don't know if it's been pulled into the KDE patch collection for 5.15 though. Now we just need to get Lomiri fully onto Mir 2.x and Qt 5.15 so we can add the capability to ship the OSK in a confined click.
