@captainfuzzyface Seems that GhostCloud isn't intended for syncing Calendar and Contacts as I thought. I'm back to configuring the standard CalDav and CardDav.

In this forum, you should find some topics about cardav sync, there are users who have shared how to do that with syncevolution iirc

That was the "get out of jail free card" tip that allowed me to make it work.
NOTE: for anybody following. First set up your Gmail account in Settings. Then click the > arrow and that gives you two slider buttons which allows you to sync either/or or both the Contacts and the Calender.

The only thing I did differently this time was to create a small contacts.db (mine is 1.8 MB so I thought that the size might be the problem), move it into the directory and after a restart the contacts were shown. Then I deleted it, moved my 1.8 MB contacts.db into the directory and it worked. I have no idea why. I don't think my antics with the smaller file had anything to do with it. Anyway, thank you: Without your insistence that the contacts are saved in contacts.db I would not have tried it again.

My advice, don't rely on a company to maintain something for us (Ubuntu Touch users).
What I would do:

manually export my calendar from google
import it into a nexcloud account
then sync nextcloud with UT

Nextcloud will remain and if you're using service by some company and not your own instance then don't forget to backup your data
Nextcloud will be maintained as Google may decide to block any third party... They are already pushing in this direction.

When I add my account it works fine one time, than later on the update is too fast and nothing is really updated.
I found a workaround.
My Nexcloud account was linked to two or more apps. Now I set an account for each app and it seems to work a lot better.
Hope it can help.
