On the other hand, since I consider that UT was not yet completed until ota-7 focal, for my OPT5, since features like led, etc .... that worked in ota-25 xenial, I guess that if I reflash an android image, there is still a way on a UT installer to reinstall UT in ota-25 ?
Thank you for your kind attention to my questions about using UT on my OP5T.

to make it clear the short answer is: yes, a device that has reached the stage "Advanced Support" will be demoted to "Basic Support" when there is no activity for 6 months, if there is no further activity for another 6 months the device is removed from the list

support in this case means: someone is activity fixing issues on the device
Activity is the activity in the device repository

The website has been recently updated.
If you go to https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/promoted/
You'll find the promoted and recommended devices for the regular users who desire a fully featured device.

Spoiler ; this page will soon be updated with a new device that has a successful campaign...

The end user is always a focus for the system development.
The porting aspect is a more complex topic.
Porters work on devices they have and wish to be ported.
The foundation tries to make partnerships with manufacturers like Pine64, Volla and more to bring Ubuntu Touch to a larger user base and people who cannot afford or find our current promoted devices.

You have to understand that the porting aspect is a difficult problem to solve.
Maintaining the OS is also difficult but because it's a constant effort to keep up with the world. We don't have enough resources to work on new features.

AppLee

Reply to OP5T removed from device list 20.04... on Sun, 29 Dec 2024 18:39:51 GMT

@<bdi>arubislander</bdi>
It is, of course, those who have been involved in this project from the outset who remain in control of its route.
Nevertheless, among the users, there are of course these developers and others, and there are the users who have their own opinion on the matter.
Who says developers says, no doubt, passion, challenge, fun etc ...,
who says users and not developers says, no doubt, a reason mentioned by some and others, security and privacy with this system.
However, where I think the “basic” user is wondering is what will happen to his or her phone if it is no longer supported, or if he or she chooses a phone from the list of devices, for how long? So it's logical to choose the phone that is best supported by UT.
As a result, the devices that are least well supported will eventually be dropped and disappear from the device list. ( I know, it's more complex than that, but there's a bit of it, isn't there? )
Aren't we running the risk of it going off in all directions with certain devices, only to end up with nothing at some point?
Far from wanting to direct the project, this is simply my vision of what I think as a user of a system I've been adhering to since 2016, in the hope that it will be as functional as possible on a device I find in the list of devices, and also, and this is only my opinion, that it will ensure the project's perenniality.
If I'm keen on UT, it's because I don't know if there's another project that's better suited to what I want from my phone, and that above all it's a simple, fluid, functional system that respects privacy that I need.
I'm sorry for this end-of-year prayer, but could you please tell me what the possibility is, as indicated at the beginning of the post, in the installer in the event of reinstallation?

That has never been one of the stated goals of this project, no. It has been among the top reasons quite a few users have adopted it, though.

Yes, since you're talking about the noble version, and I had read that tests had been done for this phone on another kernel and that it seemed to work, it would be a shame not to take advantage of that, as having a version where all the hardware works is a plus and gives a good impression of UT's performance.
That's why the discussion, which could concern other devices ( and if, as many here hold ), could be maintained on 20.04 focal fossa, because after all, isn't One of the reasons for UT to run on more phones, to avoid obsolescence and enable a more sustainable world?
