Does anybody know why, or what the fix could be?</p>

On some I have added a thermal pad (like for PC CPU's) for the Snapdragon CPU - this is usually  a last resort.</p>

First thing to do is back up date and do a clean install to rule out software. But from experience the battery may be failing. Discharge it to zero  and charge up a few times that can resolve it too. If it isn't software and you haven't replaced the battery, it could be overheating and may need an internal clean up.</p>
