Yes but Waydroid leaks all the available information as if you were running android.
If privacy is the main goal of using Ubuntu Touch, waydroid should be used carefully.
Of course it won't sniff around to find your juicy pictures, but still your location and usage of the android apps will leak.

Just like Meta cannot read your WhatsApp messages, but they're happy with "only" the metadata associated with such usage...

If WayDroid is used without GAPP module, it's recommended to install the MicroG services (a fake Google services library). This will allow "most" apps that need Google services to run properly in WayDroid.
The installation is simple and is described here:

You can containerize+run GooglePlay apps under waydroid, with a GAPPS image. I followed this guide for enabling that, as well as enabling Google Play Services, which many first party apps will not work correctly because they require DRM to run.
But its worth noting that enabling Google Play Services will decrease your privacy/security, which is probably why it's not the default "guided" way to install waydroid on UT.

I'd like to think that running GooglePlay/Services in a container is more secure than just a vanilla android OS, but honestly I'm not entirely sure. It probably depends on what device settings/features you restrict app access to in waydroid?

For the few google apps i have to use, there is F-Droid or apk-extractor on a Android phone.
Using the Google app store is like having your cake and eating it too...
I'm glad I won't be interacting with that world anymore.

If we are going to do everything that Android does, what would make us special? Why would we even bother?
