On the back this is also just Matrix. And encryption also works. Just use beeper.com as server in the Matrix client.

Edit:
Oh setup needs to be done with the Android app, but once setup you just can use a native UT client.

Well if I understand well, the message seems to precisely say your account does not work with the bridge (is not bridged), because the bridge hasn't received the private key linked to your signal, while it needs it to work. (This key allows it to receive and decrypt messages, and send them back to you).

If they manage to have end-to-end encryption, I really would be curious how they managed it. And would be interested in further documentation explaining that.

Because at first sight it seems to me impossible without the matrix client implementing some encryption premises specific of the Signal protocol, starting with generating a pair of keys compatible with the signal protocol.

I've not done an exhaustive research, but the source that I find mention an "End-to-Bridge" encryption, not an end-to-end encryption:

https://docs.mau.fi/bridges/general/end-to-bridge-encryption.html

For that reason I've personally never used this type of bridge, because my point of view is that if I'm using a protocol to protect privacy like Signal it's important that I don't tamper the protocol, not only for me but also for the contacts that expect it to be E2EE.

I never did that since using the bridge, but I can guess, that when changing your primary installation for Signal, you may need to connect all secomdary linked devices again. Would kimd of make sense.

Regarding "login" and no answer, I don't have much advice, but only know that matrix bridges can hang. If there is no message/reply at all, best try again later or zry to find out if your bridge works. I had it before, that the bridge was down or flooded or whatever and the bridge maintainer had to fix something. So have some (a lot) of patience might be needed.

For everyone here who is looking for an alternative to use Signal on Ubuntu Touch.
There is a matrix signal bridge hosted here: https://tchncs.de/matrix.
This can be used with Cinny or any other Matrix client. Instructions are given on the website there.
Note: Some things do still not work. Image download is fine, but right now no other file types. I am working on it...

Open Cinny (or another matrix client)

create a new room

invite the bridge bot @signalbot:tchncs.de

open your primary signal device and head for settings, linked devices

got to chat with bridge bot and type "login" as message

scan the qr code with your primary device, it should now link them

Done.
