<![CDATA[I'm Looking for a Replacement to my Android Smartphone OS]]>I'm looking to go Google-free and have been reading several older threads about replacing the OS and Ubuntu Touch seemed promising despite the articles being over a year old. Am I looking in the right direction here? Is this the right product to explore?

but I don't know exactly when this feature is available.

If you're not using a device that UT is supported on, a Nexus 5 or OnePlus One can be had pretty cheap. You can also look in the Open Store to see what apps are available that will replace what you're using now in Android.

the only thing im miss if using ubuntu touch is maybe chatting apps like WhatsApp. because people in my country is still using this rather than using telegram.

but anbox is worth a shoot.

Edge is where UT is moving to and can be a bit twitchy at times but well worth a look but maybe not for daily use for everyone just yet.

The easiest answer is for you to use the stable version, this is my daily driver and I want to avoid most of the problems edge channel can still have.

But if you're just curious and a little bit adventurous than I heard (read in fact) that Edge is pretty neat and advanced so you can give it a try.

By the way it has been 2 years now that I don't use android. And I don't miss it.
I can create the few apps that I need, so I'm a happy free man now.

I am using an OPO as my daily device and have been for a few years now. I would say most required functions work very well though it has to be said the app range is still limited compared to you know who. But that's not the point.

Ubuntu Touch for now is compatible with very few and somewhat old devices (check up the website). It is not as polished as Android, and there are quite fewer apps available. Even for supported devices, there are shortcomings. Are you willing to purchase a used phone to install UT on? That's about the only option for now, but if you're willing to wait, there are two new Linux phones being developed that should run UT; they should be released for mass production in 2020. Look for PinePhone and Librem5 topics on the forum.

I purchased a used OnePlus One myself last month, switched my SIM card from my Android device to it 2 days ago. I really like UT, even with its shortcomings, I want to support the project.

Another choice you have is to install an Android derived OS on your current phone, based on Android Open Source Project like LineageOS, and devoid of Google apps; provided your device is supported. I'll tell you though, UT is much easier to install thanks to its GUI installer. And AOSP is still controlled by Google.
