<![CDATA[Canadian English is lacking in that it erroneously seems to be US English]]>I initially loaded Ubuntu Touch on my Nexus 5 phone with Canadian English. But, I noticed that it renders everything as US English. So, I've now loaded my phone (Nexus 5) with UK English, which does work. Canadian English is closer to UK English, though there are a few differences. Anyway, I just thought I'd point out that the Canadian English option seems faulty -- or, at least, it isn't reflected in some of the central apps (like Contacts).

The translation to UK English is probably based on US English so there are mistakes.
I don't know where you can contribute to help fix the UK dictionary but it certainly exist somewhere.

There are probably some mistakes like this with CA English as for CA French vs French or other languages...

But perhaps I was doing something wrong. I'll try it again. Well, yes, you are correct. In the case of flagged misspellings, if I take the extra step of selecting the first word (on the left), which corresponds to what I have typed, before hitting space, that it allows that word to stand. Odd though that British spellings, such as neighbour/centre/centring, are flagged and corrected if the additional action you've prescribed is not taken, given that the phone I have is supposedly using British English. But after selecting and using these words, they are added as a valid word and so it's not a required action again. Thus, I've reset the phone to use autocorrect. Thanks again for your help.

When you type something you have suggestions above the keyboard.
The first one (on the left) should be exactly what you typed.
Before hitting space if you tap on this word it is supposed to save it as a valid word.

Is that really what you tried ?
I just made the test and it works on my phone.

But yes, I typed the British spelling of theatre (rather than the American spelling), and autocorrect kept changing it to the American spelling. My phone is set to British English, so I'm not sure why autocorrect insisted on the American spelling.

I feel it would be a good idea for autocorrect to give up on its efforts if a user manually overrides the autocorrect correction. For instance, if friends have some meaningless colloquial saying they like to share, like, oh, say, "bloxy", then it's fine if autocorrect once changes it to "boxy". Then, seeing that it's done this, the friends in question can then change it what they want to say (which is "bloxy") and, such a manual override of autocorrect should, IMO, be respected. Currently it's not. I kept trying to change "theater" to the correct British spelling, and autocorrect kept changing it back.

As I mentioned a while ago, I have the phone set on UK English, so there's absolutely no reason why autocorrect should behave in this way. I finally had to turn autocorrect off, since the phone would not take the hint that I was not open to its spelling suggestion. To have a fully Canadian English translations on the system you need to translate the core app and systems strings. This can be done here:
