Ubuntu Touch Q&A 60 Saturday 5th Of October At 19:00 UTC

I'm curious about the status of hardware graphics acceleration for current supported phones. My limited understanding is this is not a simple issue, so I am wondering if this is something we will never see on current devices (like the OPO or N5) as it will need to wait for more open hardware (ie Pinephone)?
@Giiba It depends on what graphics specifically you're talking about being accelerated. We are already using EGL accelerated graphics for the main system (so most native apps use this).
Legacy (X11) apps can't have accelerated graphics via Xmir, due to the lack of mesa on devices (so this may or may not "just work" on PinePhone/Librem).
When new Mir is in and Wayland EGL is fully supported along with switching to Xwayland, X11 apps may get acceleration, but may not too, as I think Mesa would still be required for that on the X11 side.
For QtWebEngine (and pretty much anything else), anything expecting to be accelerated would need to support Wayland and such for that. I think there's been some work upstream on that, but it is not something the UBports community is directly working on.
@domubpkm As it's been stated multiple times before, questions about when specific bugs will be fixed and such, will not be answered in the Q&A, which is meant for more general things.
In an interview, Dalton mention that click package are the ansetor of snap. Does it mean we should move to snap at some point?
How is ergo?
@dobey thanks, that makes sense.
I was asking as I notice watching pretty much any video content in Morph makes my devices super warm; it is clear they are working very hard and this didn't happen under Android.
@doniks Ergo development is quite slow, as I'm the only person working on it, and have had very little time to make any real progress for some time now. However, my current top priorities for it are to get it working on Android, flesh out the styling more to render various widget states properly, and to improve the accessibility aspect.
@UBportsNews How many female users do we have and what could we/should we do to increase the appeal of UT to our wives/sisters/daughters?

@dtarrant we don't keep tags on any identifyers other than location, that means we don't know your age, your eye colour, or what's between your legs.
The question for "how to get women interested" it seems to be fairly common for women to like Bejeweled and games like that, then men, women seem to prefer Instagram, over men, but what the persentages are, I'm unaware, the difference in Instagram usage for example, could be less than one percent.
Like I use Instagram a lot more than most of my friends who are women, but I mean if it is that 49% of women don't like Instagram as much as men, then that's almost 50/50.
The persentage of people who have an account on the service is 49.7 men and 50.3 women but that's not usage or how much each gender likes the service.
However this is also like saying "how do we get men into Ubuntu touch" and then me suggesting that we add cars and wallpaper of women, its true that a lot of guys like cars, and seems to be the case that men prefer cars than women, but I don't know if the equation quite works out, and if it does, I don't think it should impact our decision for the os moving forward.
Everyone is different, your wife, daughter and sister, aren't the same person, they won't have exactly the same likes and dislikes, so what would draw one to use Ubuntu touch, most likely, wouldn't draw the other.
I don't know your wife, but I think the best way to make Ubuntu touch appeal to your wife, is by asking her, what she likes, and what she uses, and why she likes and uses it.
Fix things for you, and fix things for people around you, and people will come, perhaps the thing that you fix for your wife, doesn't interest any women but brings more men on board, and the more the merrier regardless there background, it seems to me.
@dtarrant, there's a lot to unpack there. I don't think we'll be able to do it justice as part of an hour show, or even if we dedicated the whole episode to it.
A follow up question, if I might...
@NeoTheThird is at Ubucon in Portugal next week, giving some talks... Will there be videos of the talks available for us to watch? I know you've tried hard to provide them in the past.
