It's a little more difficult in American English: The first word should be capitalized if the sentence after the colon is complete. Sometimes. It depends on your style guide.

According to reading from rae.es and summarized in this spanish.stackexchange answer, it's rare to use a capital after a colon in Spanish.

Right now, we're discussing the use of auto-capitalization of the first letter after a colon in an issue on GitHub. If capitalization after a colon is an exception rather than a rule in most languages represented here, we can safely turn off that automatic capitalization in the Ubuntu Touch keyboard.

We'd like to know: does your native language require a capital letter after a colon most of the time? It seems quite rare in the languages I've researched so far (English, Spanish, German), but I want to make sure.

In Catalan: Depends on the use of the sentence that goes after the colon.
I could be: lowcase.
It could be: uppercase. The thing is: Does the sentence is a whole sentence on its own?
