<![CDATA[Australian mobile service providers dont accept ubuntu]]>Hello I am in Australia and I was inquiring as to whether Ubuntuis compatible with services provided by Telstra Optus and Vodafone who each stated that Ubuntu is not compatible with their network. If there is a work around please let me know as my mate and I are keen to use ubuntu touch. Many thanks.

Probably not. They likely support Surface tablets, and also likely provide data-only USB GSM devices for connecting a PC, as most providers do now. 🙂

But most people working in such places also tend to have no idea what Ubuntu nor Ubuntu Touch even are, so their default response is of course "no, we don't support that" because they have no idea how they would support it.

You might as well of asked if Window 10 is compatible with their networks, the answer would be the same.

Network compatibility is about hardware compatibility. You need to ask something like: "is a Google Nexus 5 compatible"? But of course ask about whatever phone you plan to use.

As mentioned not all features may be supported by UT, but that is a different issue.

However, certain features that most providers have around the world now, will not work, such as VoLTE, WiFi calling, etc…
