<![CDATA[Installing UT on N5 stuck in boot loop]]>After successfully installing UT on two N5's, thought I'd try loading it on an N5 stuck in boot loop. Not sure it is possible, but it may be worth a try. Snap Installer is installed in my laptop running Bionic Beaver. The new Nexus 5 isn't recognized when plugging it in. When hold power+Vol. down, the boot loader flashes on the screen momentarily ( 5 sec. cycle). While it is up, pushing the vol. down or up does nothing on the screen. Navigation seems non-existent. The banner at top alternates between saying Restart, and Restart Bootloader. Can't get it to move forward. Wanted to access recovery, but never saw it. Used it before when loading seemed to stick. When buttons are not depressed, screen just flashes Google every 5 seconds. The battery seems pretty low. Nothing happened when trying to start it when I first unpacked it. After charging for a while, it would start the boot loop business, but unplugging it drained the battery pretty fast. I have new batteries, does anyone know how difficult they are to replace? Someone said the charge port is a bear. Or might the battery be ok, just need a long term charge?
Would appreciate any input at all.

Thanks for the tips. They were helpful. I didn't have to check youtube. I used my fingernail to remove the back, took out some screws I didn't need to, lifted the battery connector and then the battery. Putting a new battery in didn't correct the boot loop though. I also poked and prodded the switch to see if it would loosen up and work. No deal. Looks like there is a small pin or shaft that the button pushes on when depressed. It doesn't look like it moves at this point.

I guess I was one of lucky 1% that swapping out the battery worked for.

Careful with the hot gun and shield any parts that might melt when you swap the switch, those switches are so tiny good luck.

Amazing! I'll try that while waiting for the switch. I have new batteries. Did you need to use heat on the back of the phone to get it loose? I've seen that little guitar pick like thing they use on some phones to loosen the back.

Did you swap the battery at all? I bought a 2nd Hand Nexus 5 with a boot loop and fixed it by swapping out the battery only and the battery is a lot easier to replace than the power switch. Almost no tools required just fingernails and a small cross head screwdriver. i would try that first, if you haven't already and save the power switch if you need it 😉

fastboot devices

again.
You should see something like

List of devices attached
01a819eb0c59b252	device

If so, then open ubports-installer and follow the instructions. Select "Select device manually", then "Nexus 5". From here on, install as normal.

I check the videos and go that route when the switch arrives. I bought a hot air gun and a micro solder kit for such an occurrence, so will be good to go. Thanks for troubleshooting it. adb devices and fastboot devices, the device is not getting far enough to be able to do the adb reboot recovery command. In that case, it is likely your power switch that is the problem

If a device showed up, type:

adb reboot recovery

Looked for devices, found none. Do I run sudo apt install fastboot or the command for use after no devices are found?
