Welcome in club. I started 36 years ago with Assembler and Fortran 4 on an IBM /370 clone in the GDR (ESER 1055) and with UNIX v7 on some RSX11 clone too (forgot its name in the Eastblock). I'm still doing sw development, mostly with C on Linux, but in my spare time kernel-testing and hacking on FreeBSD, and since 2++ years for the BQ E4.5 (wrote some click pkg for the MUA mutt).

I understand the UbPorts "philosophie" to have an own way of handling a Mobile.
But, this mustn't mean, to not support Features in a Phone, that are supported by Android, just because they are supported.
It could also mean, to have a new Design-Feature like Gestures, without leaving built-in Phone Features unused.
It would give any User an additional choice between two possibilities.
What really bothers in the Moment is the Charge-Indicator that doesn't function at all.
I honour your Work very much, but you would be doing better, to give the Users a Choice, and an additional Feature by getting al the best out of her/his Phone.
Everything else would be a "Willing by force" from the Customer Point of view, and that is a No-Go from Marketing Aspects.
I would take Part in Developing on my own, but the times i did SW Development ist some 35 Years ago and stuck in Assembler and Fortran 4, 77 on RSX 11M.

Today i START Phyton and C++ on Raspberry 2 + 3.

THX and a very nice Day.

However I think a back gesture in the webbrowser app is really an improvement. I'll file a ticket for that.

I don't miss the back button, but a configuration for those who miss it would be OK provided that it does not cost too much development efforts.

To me the support of hardware buttons would be easy to implement, but the current UI has no room for soft buttons as many phones require, so this would mean a complete change in philosophy. I like the button-less design of this OS!

Sometimes a back button a la android would be handy, like for the webbrowser for example. It also depends if you're using the phone with one or two hands.

Of course this is just anecdotal, and that's not a deal breaker to me.

The other thing is, the OPO has a resolution and so on, which doesn't make it easy to hit the right place for sweeping.
That makes it hard sometimes to change apps or just shut them.
But i think, i will get used to that sometimes.

Thx for your Reply !

That is what i guessed. With a Smartphone like OPO and the "back" Button in the top left corner, i have an issue, because i the Phone is quite big, and reach to that < i have to change the position of the Phone in my hand, left or right doesn't really make a difference.
In that case i would prefer to size the screen down to a Window.

But thx anyway !

@Pet_HH if I'm understanding you correctly, you're talking about the standard buttons in Android phones? Those doesn't exist in Ubuntu phones.

You get the menu swiping the screen from the left hand side, Home is in the lower part [*] in that menu. On the other hand a "hard code" back button would be really useful.
