<p dir="auto">Searched and found many historic posts about issues with it, but my UT default clock app (installed about 2 weeks ago) has no option to set an alarm, buggy or not.</p>
<p dir="auto">Happy to be proven as daft if I've missed something obvious!</p>
<p dir="auto">Phone is a Oneplus One.</p>

Oh, that's nice. I'm curious to know how it works.<br />
Does it sound an alarm at wake time with a simple user interface or does it wake the phone up completely before triggering the alarm ?</p>
<p dir="auto">They probably run a custom bootloader able to exchange data with the alarm app and that's probably not open sourced... (or maybe it is)<br />
Then during the night, the phone is not really turned off but on a very deep sleep with only the bootloader running.</p>

I don't know of a smartphone able to auto wake up for an alarm.</p>
<p dir="auto">If you want to use your phone to wake you up in the morning the best option is to toggle the flight mode to save the battery as much as possible.<br />
That's what most people do. Some don't even turn the modem off and are disturbed by notifications or calls...</p>
<p dir="auto">I would be really surprised if your phone with android was able to wake you up while the phone is turned off.</p>
