Apps connect to the daemon using avahi-client library. I am the maintainer of QtZeroConf, a cross platform wrapper of zeroconf libraries. One of my users makes an app for Ubuntu Phone. Currently he is using something called avahi-core which is meant to be used on embedded system with a single application when avahi-daemon is not present. Ideally there should not be multiple applications listening for mdns traffic on the device. Would Ubuntu Phone be willing to add avahi-daemon? Or should his app make avahi-daemon an installation dependency?

It is certainly on our radars but for now we decided to not ship it due to potentially broadcasting on mobile data with the standard config. If someone is willing to step up, help and accelerate this effort it would be appreciated though, as we're very busy.
