<![CDATA[GPS Not Working on Redmi Note 9S]]>I have been enjoying Ubuntu Touch and working well on my Redmi Note 9S device and waydroid, credit to the guys working hard and supporting so many devices.

Before I making it my daily phone, was wondering can anyone guide me on how to get the GPS working on Unav or even waydroid?

Based on the device page it says the phone should support GPS:

Is there anything I need to do or consider to get the GPS working for Unav or Waydroid, I have installed in the last month and updated recently?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Instead of setting the lock screen to never, which will drain the battery quickly, I suggest you prevent Unav suspension from UT Tweak Tool so that the screen locks when Unav is not in use. The same applies to OSM Scout Server if you want to use off line maps.

Now, I am unsure of all the caveats, but this is what I did and it worked after not behaving for a long time:

  1. Turn location on

  2. Go to system settings > security & privacy > locking amd unlocking > lock when idle: Never

  3. Get the SensorStatus app

  4. Set it to never suspend with the UT Tweak tool app

  5. Reboot

  6. Open sensosstatus app, go to GPS

  7. Leave next to the window for some time (it wasnt excessively long, but i also wasnt paying attention). I think the point is to stay still.

  8. After some time it got a lock and started reporting my location! Unav and whatever else works now!

So are all these steps necessary? Idunno. But its what i did and it worked! Hope this helps!

(error 1 error 126 etc. bad repertory, bad rights I think).

Only way ton install UT is :
Install MUI officiale firmware (Android 10 not 11) so totally wipe UT
then use ut installer: and it works nice 🙂

In car may not be good enough for a first fix. The phone needs to be outside for 20-30 minutes in a weak signal area.

Also it is necessary to keep Unav active all that time either by preventing the screen from locking, or (my preferred way) of preventing application suspension using the UT Tweak Tool.

The fact is that you have to open a nav application, force the screen on (using Ubuntu Touch Tweak Tool), and leave it outside for 20 to 25 minutes so the unit can acquire the first GPS signal.
Then, the next satellite signal acquisitions will be much faster...

You need to be outside of any building, open wide ground, and wait 5 to 15 mn for first GPS fix in unav to take effect after a device boot/reboot.

I don't think GPS work in waydroid, but i don't have it so can't be sure.
