I want to clarify. Waydroid Helper only does apt update and you should NEVER EVER run apt upgrade on UbuntuTouch as this will most likely break your installation. Whatever causes your issue it is probably not related to WaydroidHelper

It does not matter what you update the system with if you are on RC or Devel you will get the new code screen.
If ypu want to find out what is causing your issue I would clean install stable then WayDroid helper and go from there. If no issue all good. Then try the same if you must using apt and see what happens on stable. Then do the exact same from a clean install of RC. Might pin point where things change but make sure you follw exactly the manual install insructions.

It is NOT recommended to use apt to update your system.
It is also NOT recommended to put your system partition in RW without knowing what you do.

So my advice is to run the installer again and not do things you're not suppose to do
If you want to try waydroid, follow their install tutorial and it should be fine.
My advice also before following blindly a tutorial is to understand each step in order to be able to fix things in case there is a problem (it saved me several times).

Hope you'll get where you want without trouble.
