I got it in 2020 and it still gets updates. Likely it has had updates for the past 5 years. The intent of LineageOS is to extend the life of your phone longer before you need to replace it. The latest update I got gave me the Android 11 layout which I like.

Agreed, but I am not optimistic.

But that's not up to me.

By the way, Germany is trying to make EU law force manufacturers to support with hardware part and software update their device 7 years instead of the 5 being discussed, i believe it'll be a long way even for 5 years, as lobbies have more power than 6th extinction on politics minds...

I would love to see (more) phones that are supported for 10 years, both for the environment and the simple fact that we throw away products that are still fine. Legislation may perhaps force phone manufacturers to offer 1 year extra updates, extending it to 3/4 years.
But if we demand manufacturers to make phones that will be used for 10 years, we should also be ready to pay the price that comes with it. If a manufacturer can only sell 1 phone per 10 years to a customer, prices I guess have to go up to stay in business.
Apple iPhones offers up to 7 years, Google Android phones 2/3 years. A lot of people look for a cheap phone and thus go with Android, but the more expensive one may prove to be the cheapest after all, if you consider how long it lasts.
I hope there will be more manufacturers like Fairphone, Pine and Volla, that are welcoming to alternative OS'es, like Ubuntu Touch, and that they will create phones that last longer, and that more and more people are willing to pay a fair price and support them. So that they may inspire their larger competitors.
Hopefully, one day, it will then become normal to have a phone that lasts 10 years...

My reasons to use products as long as possible are :

I usually buy stuff that I really like!
For example my ZUK Z2 Pro is now 5 years old and I would love to keep it using for many years to come, because it's still more than fast enough and overall a nice phone to use! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I don't like selling or throwing away stuff that still works just fine for me!

When I consider to buy something I always make sure it won't be outdated or not good enough for me very fast.
For example : My PC is now 9 years old and the only huge change was a new GPU in 2017 and I hope it will keep working for many years to come!

Soo...

If someone would ask me : "Would you like to buy a phone that will keep working for 10 years ?"
Then my answer would be : "HELL YEAH!!!"

Fun Fact : I have a stereo that's about 25 years old now and still works!
