      Swiftkey or Gboard (original was Swype) keyboards allows swiping through letters to create a word. Is there anything like it here?

        @777funk I don't think so.

          @777funk ooo this is old discussion material right there ^^ we are too few people interested - that would require quite the coding endeavor while core parts of the OS still need some work

            Yes probably a waste of coding time! I agree since it doesn't seem to exist. As far as too few people interested, I'd bet swype type keyboards (Gboard and Swiftkey and other stock swype keyboards) are some of the most popular keyboards used. Much faster for many people than pecking out each individual letter. Also double space bar for a period that most of those boards offer is convenient.

            So I would argue that it IS popular. Worth it for someone to code? Probably not.

              @777funk the technology is also proprietary if I remember correctly, at the very least it is patented.

                @777funk There's already an option for inserting a period when double tapping space.
                As for Swype, someone who really wants and capable just needs to implement it. We'll soon be moving to upstream maliit so maybe we'll have a better chance with it.

                  There's so much that works great in UT that it really doesn't matter that much. I prefer typing on a real PC and keyboard regardless so if I need to type anything serious, that just means I take the Xubuntu 22 machine off of standby.

                  So far UT is very handy on the old Nexus 5 it's being used on. I prefer it to Android especially on this phone. The browser is very fast by comparison.

                      Exactly, while I use swiftkey or swipe on IOS and prefer it to pecking at the keyboard!

                      I would rather the manhours go to the operation of VOIP and essential functions of the device.

                            Here's an old thread about this:
                            https://forums.ubports.com/topic/3844/swipe-style-keyboard/19

                            It seems some relevant technology might have been developed for SailfishOS, but nothing became of that discussion.

                            I remember seeing someone demonstrating a swype keyboard for Phosh at one point, but I cannot find it anywhere.
