    • 3GB/ 32GB PinePhone mainboards available in Pine Store

Pinephone owners who would like to upgrade the mainboard may be interested in this intriguing news in Pine64's October update:

"...3GB/ 32GB PinePhone mainboards will be available in the Pine Store in November. If you already have a PinePhone and want to upgrade to the higher capacity and RAM variant, you donโ€™t have to buy a new unit โ€“ just the mainboard. We also have a little token of appreciation in store for early adopters (Braveheart and UBports CE) owners who wish to upgrade their mainboards, but I wonโ€™t spoil the surprise in this post."

@AppLee Thanks for the info, I had a feeling it might be something like that! Not to worry, I've been contacted by another moderator who may insert the link.

Actually, I'm not new here. I signed in about two years ago but because I left for a short while my history counts for nothing I found out. So I'm starting over...

I kept getting a 'spam error' from Akismet which prevented the placing of a link in a new post. For now I have just posted without the link. Can this be fixed please?

@nebulom Shhhh, don't wake the mods! In one's original post there is a box called "Topic Tools" with drop down menu. I think the idea is to mark post as a question when posting first time, then solved or whatever.

@CiberSheep Thanks @CiberSheep , I'll have another go tomorrow. I'm really struggling with the pinephone at the moment and I've always been useless at navigating in ubuntu, terminal etc! Seem to forget things quicker than learning them these days, hi-ho.
The reason I asked is kind of academic because I solved my dilemma by simply making a recording of the sound I wanted and used that.

This does not work (and cannot work) on ubuntu touch. At least not the way it is described there. Do I need to do this update? And if yes, how?

I can't answer the question and this is the first I have heard about the requirement to flash the ANX chip, so thanks for the post! I had already worked on the previous motherboard removing the troublesome components so didn't need instructions to fit the new one. Or so I thought. Always read the instructions, yes?๐Ÿ˜…

Anyway I flashed UT and all seemed ok'ish. Manjoro Beta3 is on the emmc at the mo. Tried following the pine64 ANX flashing instructions using the same Manjaro on sd card but wget command not recognised.

I'll be trying PMOS and phosh on sd card next. Guess it may affect the os installed on emmc?

    • RE: Ubuntu Touch on Sony Xperia X

@Stef7773 Hi There. It looks like you're doing everything right from what you say. I'm going to take a guess that you have noticed that the recovery screen comes on whilst phone still plugged into pc and the ubports installer still running and have thought you need to do something? If this is indeed what's happening then you should do nothing when the recovery screen presents itself on the phone, it's part of the process; just allow it to continue to completion.

PS If I don't say this someone else will ๐Ÿ˜Š : no need to post the same question in two places on the forum it doesn't make it more visible. You would be helping if you removed your other post.

@PhoenixLandPirat I did a clean install of latest build from here as I have nothing that needs saving. But your plan sounds good. It should work ok shouldn't it? Everything looks exactly the same under this installation. It's a stable build but presumably I could just switch channels if desired.

@thepossessor With PMOS on sdcard and Manjaro on the emmc I tried many times to follow the pine64 hints to flash ANX but got no out put or responses to indicate anything was happening (turns out that's normal) so also followed the prompt to dmesg. And redirect to a file 'cos too difficult/laborious to look at on device.

It wasn't working in that set up, so followed another guy's post to use mobian/phosh on on sdcard. No terminal output, but after a while dmesg output showed no errors or comments in the process right up to 'power down' or something. So it looked complete.

I don't understand the tech stuff here but my main motivation in this is thinking that it will make usb connection possible to file manager on pc.

Anyhow , after that I re-plugged the phone whilst still in mobian and and got connected to pc.

Next: Flashed UT to emmc to see if if it would work there also, but no.

Flashed mobian to emmc. usb connection to ubuntu on pc straightforward and easy. Just right for me!

I'm not sure it was the ANX flashing that did it...but it's the first time after lots of mucking about that I can just connect to pc with usb and copy files , so ...

@elastic Thanks for the tip! I was going to ask "where's the camera?", but finally found it. Not intuitive, as you say; I was looking for an icon like a camera or lens. A closer look at the names revealed it...Megapixel ๐Ÿ˜

    • RE: Problems with PinePhone Builds

@OhneZ It is confusing, you're right there!

The images on the ubports CI are described on that page as the "newest stable image" and "the build numbers of this job do not correspond to any useful OTA or Ubuntu Touch build numbers"

So #86 is a stable build of 29 Oct. I installed it to the eMMC on my pinephone and it worked but I've since switched to the dev channel.

My understanding of the channels is

      • Stable: system update will be via the major OTA's; 14, 15 etc. Most stable, obv

      • rc, the Release Candidate is/was a weekly update cycle. Fairly stable

      • and dev would be updated daily. Can go wrong now and then.

All channels get normal updates for apps, open store etc

But that's from using other devices, not the pinephone. As I'm writing this I find that I can no longer switch channels and Updates is saying "software is up to date" . I'm on Version 294. So I don't know what's going on!

As a footnote: I flashed #89 to sd card an hour ago and it booted up ok.

    • [I'm selling] my OP3T running Android 9

Time to thin out my devices again so I'm selling a Oneplus 3T which I have installed with latest OxygenOS version 9.0.6 and relocked the bootloader

The advert is on Gumtree UK

      https://www.gumtree.com/p/other-mobile-phones/oneplus3t-6gb64gb-used-in-good-condition/1390769414

I could install UT on the phone if required.

Please communicate via 'chats' or the Gumtree messaging service if you are interested/have questions.

      Many Thanks, Chris

    • RE: Problems with PinePhone Builds

@LinAdmin Not getting much help here it seems!! And I doubt if I can help much; repairing and resizing partitions is a bit advanced for me. Anyway, I thought I'd offer my latest experience with flashing the pinephone.

I've just fitted an upgraded motherboard and flashed #88 with jumpdrive. All seems good, well until I installed dekko, which immediately crashed the phone ha ha.

Would it make any difference to your experience if you tried flashing sd card with balena etcher? It has to be the simplest way and it carries out the unzipping of the image file so you don't have to.
