@libremax I appreciate the heads-up, libremax! And that would have been great! I looked into what Telegram is and tried to sign up but it told me (on the web version) I needed to sign up from Iphone or Android and I don't have either of those (I keep a pretty tidy network here, you know).
When I tried using the Telegram App from the OpenStore, it wouldn't go past the screen where it asks for my first and last name. There's also a field for "Code" but I have no idea what to put in there, and if I put nothing, it won't let me go to the next step.
If I had to guess, I am guessing "Code" is something they tried to send me via SMS (though nothing is actually stated saying so), not realising that I don't have SMS capability because I don't have a cell phone number (I use exclusively SIP for telephony).
Hopefully that group will eventually read these posts and reach out to me via the forum! Thanks for letting me know about them.

Hey everyone, I'm Josh. I've been tinkering with Linux for about 14 years now and happened to have a Nexus 5 gathering dust. Ubuntu Touch is definitely a bit of an ideal mobile OS to me.
The concept of convergence really appeals to me. So much so in fact that I even toyed with Windows Phone 10 for the sake of using Continuum. It really isn't as bad as you would expect.
The idea of a phone being a useful computer when attached to a display has been a bit of a holy grail to me for a long time. For instance, my first smartphone was an HTC Touch Pro which I ran Ubuntu on from time to time (it wasn't solid enough to be a daily driver).
From there I had moved to Android and it was okay but kind of mediocre in my opinion. I've never liked the idea that the quality of your software should dimmish just because your screensize gets smaller.
I bought a Smart Q 5 tablet to mess around with Ubuntu on the go but quickly decided it was a bit of a weak experience. It didn't feel well supported at all.
As of right now I have a Galaxy S8+ but I find myself using my old Nexus 5 I bought as a back up phone years ago.
I feel like Ubuntu Touch still has quite a way to go before I can make it my daily driver (I need a phone for work) but it hasn't stopped me from using it all over my home.
I'm really looking forward to updates and I would absolutely buy a phone for a 64-bit port when that comes to pass. Until then I will be tinkering on my Nexus 5...which I am using to post this message from Ubuntu Touch.

Hello everyone,
I'm Matej from Slovakia, I'm 37 years old. For few year I've used UT on bqE5 maintained by Canonical. Recently I've bought new phone FP2 and I've installed UT by Ubports. I'm familiar with linux (10 years no other OS) and I'm using Ubuntu on all my devices. I've a degree in cybernetics and I think I'm slight above average in reading/writing code. I'm familiar with C++ (I hate it), Pascal/Delphi (this was long time ago), PHP (along with html/css/js for work), SQL (for work), Matlab (long time ago for school) and Go/Golang (my current favourite). I've tried other programing languages (Python, Haskel, Java, ...), but I'm just above beginer level in them.
I'm willing to do some help with Ubuntu Touch, so be patient with me and I'm looking forward to make UT better with you.
PS: I speak Slovak, English and German and I'm currently learning Japanese (fresh beginer).

Hey all!
My name is Mathieu, 26 year old, and I'm from Québec, Canada.
I'm a mechanical designer without passion for coding, but I'm really interested in the Logiciel Libre (as it's said in french), and I became really conscientious of the important of the privacy on laptop and mobile.
I'm running Archlinux on my laptop, Lineage OS on my Galaxy SIII as main phone, and just bought a Nexus 5 to try as well Ubuntu touch and Plasma Mobile to be my new daily phone. I also run a VPS host by OVH with my own VPN, and a dedicated server with Baïkal, FreshRSS and a personal photo blog.
For now, I really prefer Ubuntu Touch over Plasma Mobile. I thought it would be without future after Cannonical abandoned the project, but I found here a really nice future for this OS.
I think I can help with bug report, and maybe for documentation.
I'm also here to find some help to setup the functionality that are essential for me on a smartphone (VPN and cal/carddav sync first).
Thanks for reading, and thanks a lot for all your work! -

My name is Jackie and I have tinkered with Linux since Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. I have used a variety of desktops and laptops until 2 years ago when I bought a System76 Galago UltraPro. It currently runs Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on an SSD and 18.04 on a 1Tb spinner. LOVE that laptop!!!
I recently purchased a bq M10 FHD Ubuntu Edition and am running 15.04 (r61). Became a Patreon supporter because I want to help this project and I am not a coder, developer or programmer. Thought that might be the best way to go! Look forward to seeing this community grow!
If I can help with anything let me know!

Hello, I'm David aged 76, retired and living in Dorset in the UK. I graduated in physics in 1963 and initially worked as a R&D engineer on ferrite core and plated wire computer memory systems. I've been using linux systems for many years, especially Ubuntu and ordered a BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition as soon as they went on sale. I subsequently switched to UBports and love it. I use my tablet for about two hours every day and it does most things I want. I really appreciate the UBports community and have gained the confidence to be able to post some questions to the support forum. I'm not a software developer, but I'm keen to try my hand at producing a simple webapp. So far I had some great help from the support forum. I would like to contribute to testing, but as I use 15.04 so much, I'm reluctant to install 16.04 and risk compromising my system. What I really need to do is to aquire another tablet. Oh BTW I speak and read french.

@dtarrant Hello / salut David
If you need it, there is still Ubuntu tablets for sale by BQ:
https://store.bq.com/en/aquaris-m10-fhd-ubuntu-negro -
@libremax Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe that or a Nexus 5. I guess there are many Nexus 5 users, so an M10 tablet might be a more useful test bed.

Hi community!
My name is Paul Reiter (neopar), I live in Germany and I am working as a software developer for mobile robots.
I am using Linux since Ubuntu 6.06 (so I spent a lot of time configuring beryl, compiz, emerald… with a lot of pain around xorg.conf and fgrlx - my laptop with ati mobility radeon x1100 from 2007 is still doing well and is running bodhi linux now).
I have some coding experience (Pascal, Java, Python, shell scripting) but also in administration (Jenkins, Redmine), virtualization (VirtualBox / QEMU) and handling with OS images.
I own an BQ E5 Ubuntu Edition since first release and already coded some apps for it using Ubuntu SDK (QML + Python), but I never published them due ether some legal stuff or it was too special use case. Early last year I had to switch to Android (for managing some business issues via WhatsApp), so I had no clue what is going on in UT community for around one and a half year (just followed the canonical mailing list but it is dead since view months).
Even if I do not have much free time for family reasons at the moment, I want to participate in this friendly community to make the world a better place… or at least to build a stable alternative mobile os.
BR Paul
