    • RE: Ubuntu Touch is working poorly for me on my FP2

Ubuntu Touch on my M10 tablet is good for me. I use it for a minimum of 2 hours each day. My wife also uses it in preference to our laptop. Morph browser works fine. File Manager is really cool once you discover how to slide files right or left to reveal the hidden tools. System Settings and OpenStore are most reliable. You can roll your own webapps with Clickable or Webapp Creator. You can move files back and forth between your UT device and your Ubuntu laptop with WifiTransfer. Document Viewer and Sturm Reader handle pdfs smoothly.

I could go on. To close, I prefer Ubuntu Touch to Android. I wiped Android from my Nexus 4, installed UT and it's great.

In support of Android, many folk cite the availability of a plethora of apps. How many do you really need? Aren't many of them simply "shovelware"?

Oh, by the way the Community is knowledgeable and helpful.

    • RE: webapp creator tutorial

I'm delighted to report that with help from @advocatux and @bhdouglass, I succeeded in getting my first webapp, NFB Canada, working and uploaded to OpenStore. The process was as follows:

      • run webapp-creator and complete template

      • run UT Tweak Tool to install .click package on my M10 HD tablet

      • test webapp

      • join Telegram OpenStore Group

      • submit webapp

All this was accomplished on my tablet. The difficulties I experienced were as follows:

      • had trouble joining Telegram OpenStore Group. This turned out to be an issue with the UT Telegram app. When I switched to the Telegram webapp everything worked as expected.

      • I did try using the UT Tweak Tool to submit my .click package, but was unsuccessfull. This may have been because I hadn't yet joined Telegram OpenStore Group at that stage.

      • my first submission to OpenStore was declined as requiring manual inspection. Brian Douglass suggested that I needed to use the default profile since video_files wasn't needed. That fixed the problem.

      • each time I needed to edit my webapp-creator template, I had to fill out the whole pro-forma again. However I got better at doing that as I moved further up the learning curve.

In case you are wondering why I chose NFB Canada as my target, let me explain. My first tablet was a Blackberry Playbook. This came with an NFB Canada app installed. I found that it was a wonderful resource. So I thought perhaps some of you UT enthusiasts might also enjoy it.

    • RE: How to set Desktop Mode off and make it stick?

      @luksus
So, I checked for updates and it reported software up to date. On investigation I discovered it was on release candidate channel, so I switched to devel channel and it downloaded 532mb of updates.
I installed the updates and after a couple of trys, I managed to coax it to boot.
Deep joy, it booted into staged mode! So pleased with the result. I am typing this on my Lenovo tab.
Thank you so much for working your magic. ☺

    • RE: Welcome to the UBports community! Introduce yourself here!

Hello, I'm David aged 76, retired and living in Dorset in the UK. I graduated in physics in 1963 and initially worked as a R&D engineer on ferrite core and plated wire computer memory systems. I've been using linux systems for many years, especially Ubuntu and ordered a BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition as soon as they went on sale. I subsequently switched to UBports and love it. I use my tablet for about two hours every day and it does most things I want. I really appreciate the UBports community and have gained the confidence to be able to post some questions to the support forum. I'm not a software developer, but I'm keen to try my hand at producing a simple webapp. So far I had some great help from the support forum. I would like to contribute to testing, but as I use 15.04 so much, I'm reluctant to install 16.04 and risk compromising my system. What I really need to do is to aquire another tablet. Oh BTW I speak and read french.

    • Users by country stats?

Do we have any estimate of users by country? I have no idea if I am the only UK user or if there are another 100 scattered about. Do we have the raw data that could be analysed?

    • RE: Lenovo TB-X605F Device Category?

@lakotaubp That post concerned a request to add support for the device to the installer.
My request was about adding a Lenovo category to the forum devices section.

My tab still is in excellent cosmetic condition is of no further use to me. If it's of interest to you, I would be happy to post it to a UK address. It's still in its' original box. Would be a shame to chuck it in the skip.

    • RE: Still Bricked

@MrT10001 Yes, as far as I know, he did. My son (experienced software development engineer) and my grandson (who has made previous attempts to fix it) worked together as a team consulting all relevant documentation, including your posts on this forum. They came equipped with a windows laptop which had the required operating system and ports and they verified that the connection cable was good for power and data.
They really tried very hard and we were all disappointed to admit defeat.

      @dtarrant Final Report:
Last night my grandson spent the evening trying to unbrick the tablet. He tried all the approaches chrionicled in this topic, but to no avail.
I have therefore decided to abandon the attempt to fix this device.
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and encouragement.

@danfro My OP5T is still on xenial and works fine. I use it for phone calls and love it. No need to upgrade, everything works! Camera, rotation, screenshots.
I'm writing this on a Galaxy A51 and it's absurdly complicated. Not intuitive.

@danfro I'm steeling myself to upgrade my og pinephone from xenial, but I'm really nervous.
My Lenovo M10 tab used to work fine with xenial, but has remained bricked for months as a resukt of an upgrade that didn't work. 😒

@matteo Hi Daniel, I puchased my BQ Aquaris M10 HD when it was first launched. It is still on xenial
wifi only and works perfectly, if a little slow by today's standards.
All of my disasters with other devices have resulted from attempting to upgrade, so I avoid it like the plaque!
I use it frequently for looking up recipes, wikipedia articles etc.
Also for reading emails and reading abd commenting ubports stuff on teleports.
