You don't choose GNUL to run windows apps or reject it because it can't, you choose it to free yourself from microsoft or apple. Same is UT with google or apple.

That's what i'm going to do, as i also did after canonical drop.
I stayed 2 years with their last OTA using Open Store.

Little update :
I managed to find some icons with transparancy (this way you can change background colors @domubpkm 
) in /usr/share/icons, i used thoses from suru/apps/scalable, i let them grey for the moment, but color can be changed with Gimp for instance...
I also managed to find some additional URLdispatcher compatible apps, wich are dialer app, openstore app, uTouch settings, contact app.
To add one of them, add an internet widget, and go to "Link URL" field, erase it, and add instead (edited since new findings) :

I run UT on MX4 from its launch by canonical and it's a perfectly fonctionnal phone.
Only battery percentage is bugging, but as i understood it was also the case under android.
I know very few if not no one will get a MX4 now, but its device page is wrong, please correct it.

That's what you "understand", and you're wrong.
Someone using UT for almost 10 years as daily driver would not do a thread like that without being disappointed.
Some decisions, like making morph the only webrowser, and part of the system and in consequence not updatable independently, could not end anything different that the situation we encounter now.
This is a very important thing on a smartphone, being able to browse the web.
And his "grief" on Volla can be heard, they sell the only smartphones preinstalled with UT on it, which make them the first choice for "noobs" that fear flashing devices, and those devices are not 100% working, even the very first one, under UT.
Maybe Volla should focus on that and not on doing things like dual boot (keeping it for themselves... viva open source..), and selling new devices like Quintus, when the older ones are still not 100% fonctionnal.

If you think some things could be better, tell, gently, sure you could even participate to make it better, it's a community work after all...
Now if you need help, ask, gently, and be patient for answer.
Have you even thought your problem could be hardware issue, sim connectors or sim port connectors, have you tried cleaning it?

As @AppLee said you don't sound rude, just honest.
But what you don't understand is that Ubuntu Touch is like that since the beginning, Canonical made it that way (read only in first) and users like me that adopted it since that time don't need a phone system with full access all the time.
Like already said if you want you can make it full read/write in a persistent way.
Or like you experimented, temporarily untill next reboot.
That can be useful, but for normal users for whom the system is designed, again, since the beginning, it is not mandatory or a normal use case.
If you want to continue with Ubuntu Touch on a normal way, you should consider trying to achieve what you want/need in respect with this particular behaviour of the system, like some Devs already did with crackle or things like that, I'm sure this would be a welcomed contribution.
Or maybe, like said @AppLee also, Ubuntu Touch is not what you need.

Now if you want that the Devs change Ubuntu Touch just for you that will not happen.
You're not the first to ask, you'll probably not be the last disappointed.
And no, android is not what "common" people using Ubuntu Touch want.
