    • Snaps tested

I thought it might be useful to have a list of snaps that run well on UT.
I will slowly populate this list as I try things.

@keneda said in This Forum's software is horrible! 😢:

BTW if you can't do some things here it's because your reputation is not already high enough.

I couldnt find how to increase reputation... There isnt any links on the landing page to guide new users on how use the platforw.

    • RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 172 Call for Questions

Could you add a segment to the 'show' where you give an example of how to get things done on UT?

I think many people need to figure out ways to work in UT since it is quite different from android but many of these ideas don't make their way to the 'general UT public'.

For example, there was a discussion about getting uwolf or firefox to sync passwords. This is a great alternative to the non-functioning password manager apps and makes life a lot easier.
Or maybe demo how to use ghostcloud.

I think these 'FYI' segments can help ease the transition for many people.

You build up reputation by posting and getting upvotes on your posts.

I couldn't post because my reputation was too low.

    • tiling windows on lomiri

      Hi
Quick question, are there any tiling window manager-like features to lomiri?
I use sway and miraclewm and I have got very comfortable with this setup. I get that lomiri (and UT more specifically) is designed for a different use case but I was curious if it would even be possible to add this in myself for using a UT device as a computer when docked.

    • zfs on Ubuntu touch

      Hello

I have an external harddrive that I use for as a portable 'home partition'. Its formatted with zfs and I have been using to to effortlessly move between using different computers (laptop, desktop, work) and have all my files all the time.
If I wanted to use it with an Ubuntu touch device, I would need to have a functioning zfs installation on the device. I heard in one of the podcasts that installing things via apt is not supported and the root partition only has 3GB of space.

Is it feasible/possible to install zfs on UT? I guess a snap installation of zfs is very unlikely.

    • App for bug reports?

      Hello
I might have missed it. Is there an app for 'automatically' populating gitlab/github bug reporting?
For me at least, I would be more inclined report bugs if it were easier.
It would help you guys too because you could get the app to send logs etc that are necessary for examining the problem.

    • RE: Wish list : which apps do you need?

      Password manager integration!!

keepass does not work for me (and I think for many).
I managed to get my passwords to uwolf but that is not a great solution because I use keepassxc on my desktops so I now need to do an extra 'dance' to update the passwords on uwolf. Also, I can't copy passwords from uwolf to non-X apps and uwolf erases all tabs when you close it, so I need to constantly re-login to stuff.

Even reporting bugs is a challenge. I would like to include my log files from logviewer but I can't easily log into gitlab on morph without password integration (to copy-paste the logs) and I can't copy them to uwolf or copy the passwords to morph. So when I file a bug report I need to again do a whole 'dance' to migrate logs to my desktop and then upload them to gitlab.

I feel like this is a huge sticking point right now. Even bigger than waydroid issues.

    • RE: is there a torrent app for UT?

      @Keneda
So side-loading the xenial apps did work. They start up fine but I have not had a chance to figure out how to get them to connect to my server running torrent yet.
      It looks promising though.

I gave that a try now. The webpage opens, I tap on install and the open store app opens but it just takes me to the landing page.
I will download and manual install.

    • is there a torrent app for UT?

I might have missed it, but does UT have a torrent app or webapp for remote access to a home server torrent?
Sometimes I want to start a download without needing to get my laptop out.

@Robipo sometimes it is doing things in the background. I have had the same 'problem' before where I think nothing is happening, I start doing something else and then have the phone reboot while Im doing something else.

    • RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 171 call for questions

How can we encourage app development as UT users?

I have been using UT for a few weeks now and I really like it! It looks good and it is responsive.
As an OS it works well.
A big sticking point for me has been trying to do things that I used to do on my android. Many apps will likely not come to UT (in the near future) and if I need to use waydroid for most things, why use UT at all?

Most of these activities can be done in a browser with minimal effort. However for somethings this is much much more than minimal effort.
for example, I use websites like inaturalist for logging observations of animals. It is a publicly funded research initiative and does not have money to develop apps for the one person who needs it on UT.
The web interface does not work well on UT browsers.
I have to swap to an android phone when I go for hikes.

Is there an acceptable/sustainable way to poke developers to 'make an app for xyz'?
I dont have the skills or time to do it myself but I am happy to trade time or pay something.
      What about a stokvel system?
