    • Snaps tested

I thought it might be useful to have a list of snaps that run well on UT.
I will slowly populate this list as I try things.
      Tested an FP5 focal 24.04

BTW if you can't do some things here it's because your reputation is not already high enough.

I couldnt find how to increase reputation... There isnt any links on the landing page to guide new users on how use the platforw.

    • RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 172 Call for Questions

Could you add a segment to the 'show' where you give an example of how to get things done on UT?

I think many people need to figure out ways to work in UT since it is quite different from android but many of these ideas don't make their way to the 'general UT public'.

For example, there was a discussion about getting uwolf or firefox to sync passwords. This is a great alternative to the non-functioning password manager apps and makes life a lot easier.
Or maybe demo how to use ghostcloud.

I think these 'FYI' segments can help ease the transition for many people.

    • tiling windows on lomiri

      Hi
Quick question, are there any tiling window manager-like features to lomiri?
I use sway and miraclewm and I have got very comfortable with this setup. I get that lomiri (and UT more specifically) is designed for a different use case but I was curious if it would even be possible to add this in myself for using a UT device as a computer when docked.

    • zfs on Ubuntu touch

      Hello

I have an external harddrive that I use for as a portable 'home partition'. Its formatted with zfs and I have been using to to effortlessly move between using different computers (laptop, desktop, work) and have all my files all the time.
If I wanted to use it with an Ubuntu touch device, I would need to have a functioning zfs installation on the device. I heard in one of the podcasts that installing things via apt is not supported and the root partition only has 3GB of space.

Is it feasible/possible to install zfs on UT? I guess a snap installation of zfs is very unlikely.

    • App for bug reports?

      Hello
I might have missed it. Is there an app for 'automatically' populating gitlab/github bug reporting?
For me at least, I would be more inclined report bugs if it were easier.
It would help you guys too because you could get the app to send logs etc that are necessary for examining the problem.

@lsitongia with the installer you can install UT again and choose 'do NOT wipe data'. I had to do the same. it went smoothly. I lost no data, nothing broke.

The snap package seems to have the venv package installed.
How can I safely make the snap package the default call to python3?

So I found a snap package with pip.
I am trying to figure out what to do about python3-virtualenv. When I use apt search to get some more info on this thing it recovers nothing. Is this not available on arm64?

So, if I want to edit the UT docs on my UT device, I should do it in a vm?

    • RE: How can i install pip on ubuntu touch

      @arubislander
Can I follow this up. I would like to build the UT documentation on my UT device. This requires python3-pip and python3-virtualenv. when running the build.sh file from the repo, it fails with the following:

      Detected apt
      Reading package lists... Done
      Building dependency tree... Done
      Reading state information... Done
W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend
W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock
E: Unable to locate package python3-pip
E: Unable to locate package python3-virtualenv

I guess it could not install. How can I manually install these?

      @k.nacke
Sorry, there were snap connections that I had not set, so git-confined could not access the ssh keys. I have corrected it now and it works.
I have successfully cloned the docs repo.

No luck. I get the same message when I specify the key as you suggested. I would guess it needs my passphrase but does not prompt me for it. What agent thing does UT use for secrets?
