    • Privacy on UT

      Hi,

I have a question about UT and its privacy. I have been using degoogled phone (samsung S9 with /e/os) about a year now and I have been very satisfied with it.

How the UT works? Is it android? Is it full linux? For example, are these kind of issues same with UT? Android has always some kind of connect to google and many third party trackers in apps.

So how UT and its apps work? Like browser or messaging apps? Do they have trackers or something like that? Or is it fully free of this data collection?

I appreciate your answers, hopefully this lights up conversation here.

@stefano After installing PostmarketOs, there was no way back to android, at least not with my knowledge. After hours of trying, I took my phone to service, here in Finland it was mcare, which supports mainly apple and oneplus devices. Just look some oneplus service and dont tell them that you have been playing with custom roms 😄 My op6 got onto bootloot so "that was the reason", no questions asked.

@ronbillock I took my phone to service, and it took two days and 29e to them to reinstall stock android. So not the worth of trying to get it myself with old winlaptot and trying to make the MMStool work. I tried countless methods from xda forum, but seems that there are most win users, so with linux I had no luck. Myself, I am not either so tech, so I rely on forums and pure luck when messing around with the custom roms

@keneda Yeah, axolotl didn't work one bit, at least not with my op6 at the time, and I don't recall there was any other signal app available.

When is this update to 20.04 going to happen? What happens to the 16.04?

I have had UT before, and I'am familiar with the os. One thing that is not working for me, is the signal app that wont work on UT. That is mainly the one and only thing, I can't use UT my daily driver. I hope this is going to change in the future.

    • RE: Best device for UT

So what devices will be supported in 20.04? I would like to get device, with stable support as possible in long term. And fairly new (2018 etc) so the hardware won't be issue in next couple of years.

I had op6, but it was too big to use. And I didn't like the two partitions system.

I have been following ubports and its work and I am familiar with the supported devices, but I want to ask on the forum for help to get good supported device.

Hi, is this possible to make work with oneplus6 (without the "T")?

I have also messing around with different os's and everytime I flash something evolved with linux, I cant go back to stock android with my oneplus6. It would be great to have some sort of backup to work with.
