@gpatel-fr said in Thinnking of getting myself into Fairphone 5...: @Boldos If GPS is something like a deal breaker for you, some Volla phones are said to have working AGPS , something that is lacking at the moment for the FP5 so GPS is a bit of a hit and miss. The other problems you are talking about are not specific to the FP5 (some rather uncommon media types have trouble with the main media app yes but can be read if necessary with third party software, VoLTE call following is also hit and miss, focus is not very reliable for low distance (<50cm) photos but this can be worked around by switching to video mode and back, and I have no problem with my Wifi hotspot but I'm not using a variety of Wifi nodes) I can confirm that the Volla Quintus has functioning AGPS. GPS lock takes a few seconds at most, usually.

@gpatel-fr thanks for digging into this. So, right, it's supposed to use ncm and not rndis, but usb-moded should handle tethering with that . The file you tried to cat is restricted to root access, but even with sudo, it's not accessible, and that probably explains why the configuration script fails, falling back to charging only. Maybe the fp5 is missing the corresponding kernel module now, while it had it back in August? I created a ticket.

I just received another call, and I experienced almost exactly the same behavior. The phone didn't respond to the power button, and the screen wouldn't turn off. However, after a reboot, the brightness level was normal, and everything is functioning as expected now. I'm currently on 24.04-1.1.

@halucigenia Great that you worked it out, you can mark the thread as solved (convert it to a question if necessary).

Dear all, I solved the "backup-issue" by mounting my Pixel 3a XL into my linux drive via ssh by sshfs [user@]host:[dir] mountpoint [options] (see also https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-mount-a-remote-filesystem-over-ssh-with-sshfs) Once the phone is a "normal" drive in the linux-system, rsync can be started normally and no rsync-daemon on the UT-device is necessary. Best regards Jörg

@killclique said in Guide to charge limiting your Fairphone 5: point me in the direction to make systemd unit file without changing the system from read-only? I gave some directions here for another hack and it's enabled on my phone since several weeks already. I don't know if it could really work (as you'll realize surely if you copy it as it is it will randomize your wifi Mac address, a different concern) since I have no real urge to do this at the moment. I'm unsure if it's really useful in fact, I'll have to ask a question on the Fairphone forum (and get an informed reply...) and I'm not even registered on their site.

@wgarcia Hi ! Sorry, I'm not sure to understand what you mean. This aGPS function (Xtra download) only download ephemeral, like tell Vlad. So it is a pure GPS function and it don't use WiFi or Bluetooth or scanning near cell tower. For the test please disable all GPS improvement system : So in Android settings : Improve Location Accuracy = off and Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning = off and not in High Accuracy mode. So you need to put you Android in Device only GPS to be sure to disable all other functions. It just download a satellite map at this moment. And we just need Internet data (mobile data or Wi-Fi) just one time a day. You can download the data in your home and use GPS after. We use SatStat to download aGPS (the first option in the menu). So you can do the experiment as you share at the top of the topic, or like this : I prefer this way, because we are sure that it don't use other function that ask an external server to give the location. Open Waydroid Disable GPS in Waydroid Start SatStat Download aGPS in SatStat (the first item (Recharger les données AGPS in French) like in the Vlad picture) Wait 30 seconds and after Turn off Wi-Fi and Mobile data Close SatStat Go outside Enable GPS in Android Start SatStat and look, verify that it found GPS (at the bottom) and look at the TTFF : Time To First Fix. It should be quicker than 1 minute. Is it possible for you to test it ? Thanks a lot

@enki Bug in the Bluetooth? That type of issue does happen intermittently. Try disabling bluetooth then rebooting, on reboot wait for the phone to settle for a few minute before enabling bluetooth and trying again. https://gitlab.com/ubports/porting/reference-device-ports/android11/fairphone-5/fairphone-fp5/-/issues/14

@Escain What android version did the phone come with? V14. I think that the issue was because I setup a fingerprint on Android before I installed UT. After several reboots and I don't know exactly what, it started working. Now, everything except GPS seems to work. Thank you for your help

@kugiigi Yes, I've noticed that too reading around forums. This is why I'm looking into open source+hardware solutions like Modos (https://www.crowdsupply.com/modos-tech/modos-paper-monitor) and others, although most don't support touch yet. Honestly, considering you're getting a 75Hz refresh rate monitor that's actually e-ink in 2025, the prices don't look that bad, although do correct me if I'm wrong. There are even ways to add touchscreen support to any monitor, but that's a whole different story, and won't be worth getting into until UT develops touch monitor support.

@Futura Just want to confirm this same thing happened to me. I had been daily driving calyxos, but wanted to give the new 24.04 a try. Initial progression went like this: calyxos > fairphone 15 > ubuntu 24.04 - neither wifi nor T-Mobile data worked I messed around with a couple other things including postmarket, no avail. Tried your trick: postmarket > fairphone 13 > changed setting above > ubuntu 24.04 - wifi and LTE both work Strange, and I'm not sure I follow why that works, but can confirm it does. Thanks!

Ah thank you. This seems to have been set to tethering. I wasn't aware this would also stop file transfers when I've been looking to diagnose why. Resolved
