I found the strangest coincidence possibly but I think it potentially solved this whole issue. Here is what happened. Re-downloaded and deleted all images/installers I had been using for both Android and UT After re-flashing the stock 13 Image I was having the exact same issues on Android now. Flashed stock 15 for science and confirmed this was also happening there. After rolling back 13 and playing in settings it turns out that Enabling "Allowing 4G Calls" in Android 13 settings resolved my data issues in Android. Flashed 24.04 Daily (r561) and found that not only did data work and it gets 5G now, MMS also works (with WIFI off) before it constantly said there was a network issue. I am not sure if this is the fix coming in beta 2, but its miles better than my experience yesterday!

@Keneda Sure, but in such cases unlocking the bootloader again restores function. In case of triggering the anit-rollback protection, the device is well and truly bricked.

Wifi works fine on my Fairphone 5 with 24.04 (r542). USB tethering works as well.

@Futura A lot of us use Cinny, a matrix client. And then matrix bridges to signal and some other services. We also heavily rely on Telegram through the app Teleports for all of the UT groups.

Another test I did tonight. The GPS on UT was disabled 60 km from here. Waydroid satStat shows the correct position. I launched GPS Toolkit on UT. I enabled the GPS. It found the correct position in less than two seconds. Perhaps it depends on the device. Mine is Redmi Note 9 Pro running Focal

@ubugogo 2.4 works but 5 does not hold. This is an issue I had with huawei too so I don't think it is UT or Fairphone. I have been wandering the internet, playing music via jellyfin and listening to podcasts. Really seems good with my home wifi

To progress further with the initial flashlight idea, controlling the flash directly appears to work fine in the following way. #!/usr/bin/env bash flashOff() { printf '%s' "0" > /sys/class/leds/led:torch_0/brightness printf '%s' "0" > /sys/class/leds/led:switch_0/brightness } flashOn() { # 2 appears to be the minimum brightness value possible printf '%s' "2" > /sys/class/leds/led:torch_0/brightness printf '%s' "1" > /sys/class/leds/led:switch_0/brightness } So with a loop I can have a nice flashing pattern at the minimum brightness. Just need to find what to hook into so I can have it only running only while there is a green notifications icon. As for using the screen, I think the green envelope icon, possibly slowly moving along the top edge of the screen (to minimise any burn in); would be a nice option there.

@stanwood thanks I might revisit in like 6 months time and see if things have improved I actually own two FP5s (got a 2nd one recently very cheap second hand recently to muck around with) and for now I'm having fun using CalyxOS I did rather enjoy UT for my short few days using it. As it matures I'd love to re-visit it

To be honest, I don't think it's ready to be promoted as such. It should be listed there but not described as "best" since as you mentioned, it only has the devel channel and development is still active so big changes lands from time to time that may bring functionalities but could also land regressions. For example, proper sleep was implemented however there are quirks that came with it such as wifi issue while device is sleeping. Theoretically it is one, if not the best device for UT but currently I don't think it is.

@Benoit-NL This seems like the Mailo-mail-web bookmark from Open Store. It has not been updated since 2022, which is a very long time in web developement. I would consider this app abandoned, and try to find another solution. I don't have a Mailo-account, but I would try things in this order: Dekko, e-mail app from the Open Store where you can register you e-mail accounts and send and receive mails. A bit similar to how Thunderbird works, if you have tried that in the past. You would probably need to use IMAP to configure the e-mail client. Download Mimi and uWolf. Log into your Mailo account and test these two browsers. If they don't work, learn how to install "clicks" and get the uFirefox browser in stead. Lastly, install Waydroid (a program that emulates an Android phone) and check your mail through a modern browser there, or the Mailo app if they have one that works on non Google phones.

@kugiigi Great to know. I guess I'll wait for an official release with 24.04 then to try it on my FP5.

@JDee-Intl Ideally, you have to flash the latest Android 13 from their site. Fairphone OS is Android so they're the same. Latest Android 14 would also work however when I tried that on mine, Fingerprint wasn't working. I'm not sure if that's the exact reason though. Maybe you can try it yourself see if it's the same In any case, Android 13 is still recommended to avoid issues that is not consistent with other people. Also, this isn't the right thread for this
