    • Congratulations.

I congratulate everybody associated with the development and support of UB Touch. I hope this message gets to all involved.

I never dared to have a smart phone until recently because of privacy concerns. My Nokia flip phone must be a dozen years old by now and is showing its age, so I was intrigued to discover UB Ports in April. The idea of a Linux phone seemed too good to be true, but having bought a Nexus 5 last week I am very pleased with it so far. I'll be making a donation to UBP as soon as I have bought and tested a SIM card.

    • RE: A Reminder About Posting In Support For 2021

Fair enough, but why list Devices under Porting rather than Support?

      @potet
Thank you. I realise all that but I could not get it to work. Eventually I found the problem to be that I was swiping up from the bottom edge of the visible display, when what I needed to do was swipe up from the bottom of the glass which is over half an inch further down.
      All's well that ends well.

      BigB.

I wonder if you aren't making this too complex. Wouldn't a single contact phone number be all that most people need?

    • RE: address book icon

I daresay my opinion will be unpopular, but I have to say that I really don't understand the preoccupation on this forum with icon design. As long as icons are distinctive, legible and functional, nothing else matters to me. I certainly don't care whether they conform to a theme or any other design precept.

    • RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 80 Saturday 18th July At 19:00 UTC

I believe it is time to consider a change that removes Ubuntu from the name. Searching for information on Ubuntu Touch repeatedly brings up out of date references to the time when it was developed by Canonical. If Ubuntu Touch has aspirations to independence it should have its own name.

    • RE: My LG Nexus 5 Arrived Yesterday | Here's What I Think

GPS works on my Nexus 5 and, as far as I know, on all others on this forum. Be aware that the first fix could well take 30 minutes, or even more in some circumstances. Later fixes will be faster though never as quick as a car satnav.

PureMaps and Unav both work, though I prefer the former, and will even give navigation directions if you want. To use either of them off-line you need to install OSM Scout Server first, then download the maps of your chosen regions. Start OSM before starting your map application.

    • RE: Please vote on all OpenStore apps that you install on UT!

I would be happy to comment on applications if there was an easy way to do so, however Github and Gitlab are incomprehensible labyrinths to me.

HI , UBPORTS work good with my old nexus 5, but the Battery life lasts half an hour,

Why buy a new phone when all you need is a new battery?

    • What is Wake It app?

      I noticed https://open-store.io/app/wakeit.mateo-salta

Can anybody tell me what the application does, and what "Wake-on-LAN magic packets" are? The Github page provides no clues.

    • RE: Cell Service Providers for Nexus 5?

My Nexus 5 works fine on Ubuntu Touch here in the UK so it is not a matter of the age of the phone. If you are in the USA I suspect it is more to do with national policy.

    • RE: Migrate data from device to device

@moem What sort of data do you want to migrate? If it is in File Manager perhaps you could copy it to a computer and from there to your other phone. I know it works moving photos to and from the phone though I have not tried other sorts of data.

    • RE: Transfer files from PC (Nexus5)

@h_b More likely an erratic connection between plug and socket than magic. A new cable might, repeat might, solve the problem.

    • RE: Blocking phone numbers

@3t_ed If it is the same caller each time my solution is to add him to my Contacts list with an "unsavoury" name. When he calls it is easy for me to see who it is and dismiss him. The caller gives up after a few days.

    • RE: Phone not powering on - One plus One phone

I suggest it is likely damage to either the plug or its socket. It is a rather flimsy connector and prone to damage if the lead is tugged sideways.
