      @stanwood said in Devices discontinued?:

@domubpkm Officially the Nexus 5 will not be ported to Focal because it runs on Halium 5.

That news has been expected for the best part of a year, but not confirmed until now. Sadly it marks the end of my UT experience as there is no small phone alternative to Nexus 5.

Goodbye folks, and good luck with Ubuntu Touch.

@Keneda said in OTA-25 Call for Testing Companion Post:

Edit : N5 also seems to be affected in a different way.
Sometime after a cold boot i get : bootlogo ("Nexus 5 powered by Ubuntu Touch....") then dark screen for 10 seconds, then bootlogo again, then dark screen, then Ubuntu Touch boots.
Other times i get bootlogo, dark screen, UT boots.

I resurrected my Nexus 5 to test this point. After updating to OTA-25 Stable, which went without a hitch, I performed three restarts and all of them worked just fine.

It appears the forum has reverted to the old theme, or something close to it, and is much easier to read now. Thank you Marius.

OK I got to the theme settings, but this is all that is shown:

You can customise your theme settings here. Settings are stored on a per-device basis, so you are able to have different settings on different devices (phone, tablet, desktop, etc.)

Switch which side each mobile menu is on

Automatically hide the navbar on scrollVery small screens (e.g. phones in portrait mode)Smaller screens (e.g. phones, some tablets)Medium sized screens (e.g. tablets in landscape mode)Larger screens (e.g. desktop computers)

Quick note on Forum changes has evrybody noticed the changes available at the bottom of your profiles. Rights and consent, 2FA and Themes.

I see none of those in profile Settings. I do see the lurid orange background colour which makes text harder to read.

    • RE: After 5 month..why I swap back to Android...

@picrard That's fair enough. If the phone does not do what is required of it there is no point in continuing with it. With luck UT will match your needs in the future.

@developerbayman said in flashlight to top quick menu?:

@cliffcoggin i wonder if it could just be responsive so whenever you add a item iy just produces another row .....

That would be a nice improvement once UT is a fully functional OS for all supported phones, but I don't see the point of tweaking the bells and whistles of minor functions while major functions such as the camera have not been maintained for over a year, the Adblock application is about to lose its maintainer, VOLTE (or do I mean VOIP, I never remember the difference,) does not work, not to mention the enormous amount of effort involved in the transition from Ubuntu 16 to 20. My impression is that Ubuntu Touch is on the verge of collapse for lack of people willing and able to take part in the core development work.

    • RE: flashlight to top quick menu?

To my way of thinking the notification bar is cluttered enough without adding such non essential functions to it. If a two row bar was to be developed then that would be the place for such things, but there are far more important hurdles in UT to overcome before considering that sort of change.

@jin-diggs said in Ushby have released an official Review on UT.:

The review needs modifications, I have anxiety disorder, so yes I shouldn't have given it 5, just a rough morning so excuse me. I thought this was a funded project.

      Thank you.

I can not take seriously a review based on incorrect information, written by an anonymous author who admits bias on the basis of feeling ill. I suggest the review is removed until a more objective one can be written.

So i couldn't find a UBports forum app for android so i made one!

Why? The forum can be accessed from a UT application and online, so what is the point of an Android app? Most people here are trying to escape from Android.

    • RE: any way to change desktop environment?

@developerbayman You are clearly very keen on inproving UT, so why not join the developer team which is crying out for qualified members to contribute to the system. You would then get a clearer idea of the principles on which Ubuntu Touch is built, and some of the constraints imposed by those principles.

......if it was made with linux power users and developers in mind (basically just give us ubuntu with lomri) ....and watch how popular UT would become ...i bet 20 bucks

If UT was made for "power users and developers" I would get rid of it instantly. I am a normal user having no interest in tweaking a phone or fiddling with Lomiri etc. All I want is a phone that works without any intervention by me.

However, the 24hr clock is still quite popular here and should be configurable in the system settings.

Where is "here"? What phone and channel are you using? My Nexus 5 defaults to 24 hour clock for system and applications.

@ktatar156 said in Few thoughts regarding coming back after several years:

@kristatos Just because I would like to have ANY working cloud backup of my data (photos, files, contacts).
The ideal solution would be that Ubuntu Community will set-up their own paid cloud (aka Ubuntu One) that could sync data.

There is nothing stopping you from setting up your own cloud server.

    • RE: Lg Nexus 5 Rear Camera Screen Black

@stropbu said in Lg Nexus 5 Rear Camera Screen Black:

Note: In times past, when I changed the battery of the "Lg Google Nexus 5", I verified that something was happening in the area of the micro connector, because the phone turned off randomly. I disassembled it, I checked it, I realized that the casing where the screws are housed, was slightly warped, hollowed out, I put a little piece of folded paper with several doubles, waxed, and later, a little piece of tape so that it would not move, just above the micro connector of the internal battery.

The Nexus 5 has numerous plastic clips around the edge of the case plus one near the centre. All are prone to breakage causing loss of connection to the wireless charging coil and one of the antennas. I suspect that is the cause of your poor case fit.

@mr-dt If your phone is not on this list
      https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/
then, to put it bluntly, you will need to create the port yourself. Unless you are skilled in programming it will not be easy.

    • RE: No new stuff for xenial, but what about old new stuff?

@jezek I sympathise with your predicament, but what else can the UT team do? There is not enough staff to carry out all the work required so something must be sacrificed. Should the roll out of the new base be further delayed to get outstanding requests added to the old base? (Sorry, but the terms xenial and the other one mean little to me.) Should other features be scrapped in order to get yours merged?

No matter how the list of jobs is manipulated it does not alter the fact that there is more work than the existing staff can handle so inevitably some tasks will be dropped. Of course that is unfair, but what else can be done?
