Installation questions
-
Hi,
I have a brand new FP4 on which I want to install Ubuntu Touch.
-
Is the 0.9.8 installer (Windows 10) the best to use ? When running it it says this is a prerelease version and using the latest stable version is recommended.
-
When running 0.9.7, the installer says the phone must be running Android 11. However, when going further in the installation process, one can choose between
16.04/arm64/android9/rc
and16.04/arm64/android9/devel
. This is misleading. Is it safe to install these versions on the phone (running Android 11) ?

@drpi ad 2. Devel is unsafe for daily use, it is not recommended unless you love risks. It may and can break from time to time.
The best choice is stable because it`s stable
A kind of compromise is rc. It can break, too. But this is rarely the case. -
@messayisto What is misleading is that the installer says the phone must be running Android 11 but the choices seams to be for Android 9.
-
@drpi Sorry for misunderstanding you. And unfortunately I cannot help you with your issue, hope someone else here can. Good luck!

@drpi Can't check installer as WiFi is down so with that in mind.
Use the latest installer and ignore that message. All installer versions are beta at present. As for the version to install I have been running devel with little issue for sometime, but RC would be the less risky release. There is no Stable for the FP4 yet.
Whatever the installer download version says it is vital your FP4 is on Android 11 and the bootloader is unlocked as the per the link in the installer instructions.
The fact that our UT download says android 9 in it is completely different and probably a package management thing and I am not sure why but someone with the technical knowledge here https://t.me/ut_on_fp4 will be able to tell you the exact reason. You will also find specific help on the FP4 there including moving to Focal 20.04 which is now really close. -
Disregard the android 9 thing, it's just meant for devices with 9 and higher. I know that it's very confusing. I recommend the rc channel if you want a stable experience.

Thanks all for your answers.
@Lakotaubp I've subscribed to the Telegram channel. Thanks for the link (I had to remove the e at the end of the link).
