You will have seen the current 20.04 device list however if
you are interested in porting another halium 9+ phone to Focal check

The major tasks that still needs to be done:
• Ensure functionalities related to cellular network ◦ Start and receive voice calls.
◦ Send and accept SMS and MMS.
◦ Access internet through mobile data.
• Complete Bluetooth support for ports based on Android 9 +
• Port Contacts & Calendar subsystems PIM code to Focal
• Port core-apps to Focal (is at 25 % )

Future situation:
• Phase out Ubuntu Touch 16.04, phase in Ubuntu Touch 20.04
• Set Ubuntu Touch 16.04 into maintenance mode (instead of feature development mode)
• Make patch submission still possible for 16.04, but direct the main development focus to 20.04

Namespace renaming to remove Canonical dependency A large part of the update involved the renaming of code by replacing the vendor names Canonical, Ubuntu into UBports.
We are now at 98% Packaging for Debian before the Debian Bookworm freeze 12-01-2022 packaging has to be finished see the current status:
• Ayatana Indicators 100%
• Lomiri DE components 80%
• Ubuntu-Touch phone components 75%

Predicted is that we will have the first OTA-0 for Ubuntu-Touch based on Focal by Christmas.

If you are a developer or can assist with 20.04 please do let us know and we can put you in touch with the right people.

As you can see this is a very exciting time for UBports and Ubuntu Touch as Focal gets closer. I am sure we would all like say a big thank you to everyone involved in the development of 20.04 no matter how great or small.

[Live coding][Experimental] UT 20.04: get Fairphone 4 "GSI" port to Focal's overlay store system
Fairphone 4 will be the first "GSI" port to have overlay files in the new "overlay store" format. This should allow me to see if the system actually fits its purpose. As a bonus, we'll get Fairphone 4 on Ubuntu Touch 20.04. We'll be joined by other UBports developers who will help me "ask the right questions".

Welcome to this 20.04 Focal Fossa discusson area. As 20.04 gets closer and can be installed on a few devices already we thought you needed a dicussion area for all things Focal that would not get lost amid all the 16.04 stuff.
No doubt this area will grow and change in the weeks and months ahead as will other items on the Forum as Focal itself also developes. Please enjoy this area and Focal as it developes and moves to general use.
If you want to try an early version of Focal it is available from the installer by using settings and allowing hidden channels.
One last thing please only use this space for Focal anything else will be moved. Thanks.

We all know you can get devices pre installed with Ubuntu touch. What if we had a welcome to Ubuntu Touch and UBports card inside the box or handed out when purchased in store? Well we are working on that idea.

Joan Cibersheep has already used their much valued skills to produce one great version

Can you come up with another? It must work on a business card scale 85*55 mm and if using colour keep in mind the number of colours. This will help on costs and help keep a clean clear image and message at that scale.

@libremax As the Foundation is a charity we have to deal with the German government which can take time. The Finances for 2021 are signed off and done 2022 is underway now with the German government.
I don't see any issues with making these available as they become ready. I will look into it and post back here to start with.

JFI: If you have a SPARE OP5 and want to try 24.04 then it can be installed using the installer. The best option is to use the wipe data option and do a fresh install as there was some resizing needed to get 24.04 running.
Please remember that 24.04 is not in any way fully functioning but you will get a good idea of how quick and smooth 24.04 will be.

@bbiw OTA-7 gave you the latest stable version of UT at the time it was released. The next stable version OTA-8 is built on top of the changes made in OTA-7 so yes they are all there and included with OTA-8. Nothing missing just a few further updates and improvements. Exactly the same as if you flashed a new device using the installer. You will get the latest Stable version of UT 20.04

@Lga Quick point Ubuntu Touch and UBports are not German.
The UBports Foundation itself is a charity and that charity is registered with the German government for regulation purposes but that does not make us German. We have Community members from around the world. Though it might be fair to say the majority might be Europe based.

@bbiw Yes no problem at all. If you want to be extra safe make a backup of any important stuff first but there should be no issues.

@hlbkv This is a really old thread about 20.04. Do you mean 24.04 or is your issue with 20.04?
Either way there are more up to date threads on the forum. This is the latest info for 24.04 https://forums.ubports.com/topic/10762/status-update-on-the-next-noble-based-ubuntu-touch-release-february-2025/21 Which does only have the one update channel at present.
