Demonstration

1. A priori, anyone who makes the choice to waste tens or hundreds of euros/dollars in a smartphone has the means to intelligently use 1 €/$ by year to promote the development of the mobile OS component of this smartphone.

2. With Liberapay, the recurrent donations platform built with free software and translated into 22 languages, it's super easy and cheap to make anonymously a donation of 1€/$ by year.

3. Conclusion: Any Ubuntu Touch user can easily give 1€/$ by year (or more for some) to UBports via Liberapay.

Strangely, at the moment, only 40 Ubuntu Touch users (I presume) seem aware of this.
For the reputation and aura of the UBports project, it would be awesome that it be the one by far with the largest number of supporters on Liberapay.

So and because free as in "free speech" doesn't mean free as in "free beer", it's time to wake up, huge crowd of Ubuntu Touch users, overcome the huge laziness, and tries to saturate Liberapay server with your constant stream of very small (or large) donations !

This port was released in its first version in September 2025 but remained somewhat under the radar.

Now, the Nothing Phone 1 is integrated into ubports-installer and receives OTA updates via UBports servers.
There is only one update channel at the moment for UT Noble 24.04-1.1, the ‘daily’ channel. There is no “RC” channel or ‘Stable’ channel yet.
(24.04-2.x daily channel is also available.)

Also missing is a description sheet in https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/ to complete the picture.
However, information on hardware support is available here:

There is not much missing in that matter.
The display only supports 60Hz (not 90Hz or 120Hz, mainly useful for video games), which is not really a problem under UT, as video games are not a frequent use case.
It should also be noted that VoLTE has not been tested but ‘should work’ (according to "Nonta72" , who made the porting).

As for the installation procedure, all you need is:

1. on the Nothing Phone 1, the unlocked bootloader + a ‘stock’ version (provided by the manufacturer) 13 or 15 of Android,
2. fastboot and adb on the computer that will run the UBports installer

A device with hardware performance similar to the Fairphone 5 according to benchmarks, which therefore probably offers a very solid user experience under Ubuntu Touch.

The following procedures have been successfully followed by several users who were experiencing difficulties installing UBports UT on their BQ aquaris M10 tablets. They are also useful for installations on other devices with an adjustment for the boot to fastboot mode (B.9); from a device off (not in standby):

0.1) Press and hold Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously for:

• Fairphone 2,
• Nexus 5,
• Nexus 7,
• Meizu MX4,
• Meizu Pro 5

0.2) Press and hold Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously for:

• BQ aquaris 4.5,
• BQ aquaris 5.0,
• BQ aquaris M10,
• OnePlus One,

0.3) Press and hold Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously for:

• Nexus 4

As usual, use the following procedures at your own risk.

Before starting the following procedures, make sure your tablet battery is fully charged (more than 50%).

A. Installing Ubuntu Touch UBports on a BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition Tablet with a Ubuntu (64 bits) PC

1. put your tablet in developer mode via the menu : System settings \ About \ developer mode

2. in a terminal on the PC, run the command : sudo apt update

3. in a terminal on the PC, run the command : sudo apt install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot (to install the basic tools for android)

4. in a terminal on the PC, launch the UBports installer (previously downloaded and unarchived, version amd64.deb preferably or amd64.snap) with command : ubports-installer

5. manually select BQ M10 as device in the installer menu

6. click on Install

7. connect the active tablet under Ubuntu Touch, via a USB2 port to the PC

8. in a terminal on the PC, run the command : sudo adb reboot-bootloader to reboot your tablet in bootloader mode ; a menu appears giving the choice between / reboot system / wipe cache partition / reboot to bootloader / power down / factory reset / view recovery logs. Choose "reboot to bootloader" by selecting with volume + and volume - and pressing the On/Off button; the tablet screen turns black and there is Fastboot Mode at the bottom of the screen.

B. Installing Ubuntu Touch UBports on a BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition Tablet with a Windows PC

1. put the tablet in developer mode via the menu : System settings \ About \ developer mode

2. install on the PC, the universal driver adb http://adb.clockworkmod.com or a driver specific to the BQ M10 :

3. connect the active tablet under Ubuntu Touch, via a USB2 port to the PC

4. Allow the PC to access the tablet and mark the checkbox to allow it to be accessed at all times.

5. change the USB to MTP mode on the PC (by default, only allows charging)

6. launch the UBports installer for Windows version 1.0.9-beta:

   Warning, newer versions of the installer do not work for Windows.

7. manually select BQ M10 as device in the installer menu

8. click on "Install" in the UBports installer

9. turn off the BQ M10 Ubuntu Touch tablet, then start it in Fastboot mode, by simultaneously pressing and holding Volume Up and Power buttons ; a menu appears giving the choice between / system reboot / wipe cache partition / reboot to bootloader / power down / factory reset / view recovery logs. Choose "reboot to bootloader" by selecting with volume + and volume - and pressing the On/Off button; the tablet screen turns black and there is Fastboot Mode at the bottom of the screen.

C. Installing UBports Ubuntu Touch on a BQ Aquaris M10 Android Tablet

1. on the Android tablet, enable developer mode, in Settings/About device : press "Build number" seven times or more to unlock "Developer options". Once done, go back and you will see Developer Options on the screen next to About. Select it.

2. in the developer mode options, check the "OEM Unlock" box to allow unlocking of the Bootloader

3. in the developer mode options, select USB debugging

4. apply the procedure described in this part of the documentation:

At the end you will get a tablet under Ubuntu Touch Canonical version.

5. upgrade from the Canonical version to the UBports version of Ubuntu Touch,

As far as I am concerned, I am a member of the UBports community and I have been entrusted by Florian Leeber, a member of the foundation's Board of Directors, with the task of seeing if it is possible to take this matter forward.

Indeed, a recurring request from members of the UBports community is to be able to have Ubuntu Touch promotional materials such as stickers, badges, t-shirts, ..., while making a donation to the UBports Foundation to finance actions in favor of the development of Ubuntu Touch. This demand can not be fully met through the tools currently in place (Patreon, Liberapay, ...).

It seemed to me on the one hand that the objectives of the UBports Foundation were fully in line with those promoted by the EnVenteLibre Association and the associations already partners of the platform and on the other hand that the EnVenteLibre platform could perfectly meet the wishes expressed by the members of the UBports community.

This is why I would be very grateful if you could examine the feasibility of this project and give me your point of view on the subject and, possibly, concrete ways to take it forward.

En ce qui me concerne, je suis un membre de la communauté UBports et il m'a été confié par Florian Leeber, membre du Conseil d'Administration de la fondation, le soin de voir s'il est possible de faire avancer ce dossier.

En effet, une demande récurrente des membres de la communauté UBports est de pouvoir disposer de matériels de promotion d'Ubuntu Touch comme des autocollants, badges, t-shits,..., tout en faisant un don à la Fondation UBports pour financer les actions en faveur du développement d'Ubuntu Touch. Cette demande ne peut actuellement être pleinement satisfaite à travers les outils actuellement mis en place (Patreon, Liberapay,...).

Il m'a semblé d'une part que les objectifs de la Fondation UBports était pleinement en phase avec ceux promus par l'Association EnVenteLibre et les associations déjà partenaires de la plateforme et d'autre part que la plateforme EnVenteLibre pourrait répondre parfaitement aux souhaits exprimés par les membres de la communauté UBports.

C'est pourquoi, je vous serais très reconnaissant d'examiner la faisabilité de ce projet et de me faire part en retour de votre point de vue sur le sujet et, éventuellement, des modalités concrètes pour le faire avancer.

@gpatel-fr Yes, it's a standard advice but we do not respect it in the last months and mostly because people seems not to detect "troll".
It's why I suggested a method quick and easy to detect and counter it adapted to our forum functionality around reputation scores.

@kugiigi Not precisely, it's a Mobian fork.

For several months now, we have observed this method in action, which primarily involves:

1. A single user regularly creating new threads, often with AI-generated content, using intriguing or provocative titles, all with the same subject or goal: to question the features of UT (Lomiri, Mir, Halium, etc.) and promote alternative projects (PostmarketOS, Mobian, mainline kernel, upstream development, etc.).
2. Replying to topics opened by other users that are completely unrelated by including a link to these propaganda topics.
3. Replying to one’s own posts to keep the propaganda at the top of the list.

Unfortunately, this deviant behavior is currently slipping past moderation (https://forums.ubports.com/topic/12116/moderation-issue-with-this-forum) .

Until forum moderation adapts to this type of behavior, the solution is:

1. Never reply to these topics or messages so as not to give them visibility
2. Report these topics and replies as problematic to moderation in the hope that they will address the issue

A tip for staying vigilant about these problematic topics and messages
If a topic, reply, or user has a negative (or even very negative) reputation, you should be wary and avoid replying until you’ve made sure it isn’t part of this type of spamming method (or an other type).

Dear Moderators,

It appears that this forum has a flaw in the way it is moderated, and that this flaw is being exploited lastely.

Indeed, it is generally not allowed in a forum for a single individual to be able to in a few months to started ten or so threads on the same topic (with different titles).

Moreover, when this approach is intended to ensure that their negative views on the Ubuntu Touch project remain prominently displayed (and naively discussed) at the top of the forum to maximize visibility.

By trying too hard to be accommodating and open to discussion, we end up enabling and encouraging this abusive behavior.

I hope moderation can be improved to curb this problem.

   Your tendency toward an ideal world where all contributions could (or should) be available upstream clashes with a simple reality: many users prefer a non-mainline device that works to a mainline device that doesn’t work fully or is too slow.
   And that’s why Halium is useful (currently) and why some people support and use UT (or Droidian or FuriOS).
   Endlessly repeating all the "negative" things you think about certain compromises UT makes or about certain architectural choices that have been inherited and retained for lack of a realistic alternative does not seem to me to be effective in this context.
