OpenPush?

Following up on my question on the recent Q&A, it seems like there are some efforts to make an open push infrastructure for Android.
Maybe that is something that could be adapted for UT as well? At least it seems like Fdroid has plans to support it, so it might become a standard for many open source mobile apps:
