@antidroid Ok learning as I go, had to redo the fingerprint from the computer and bootloader again. Here we go.

EDIT: I am forgetting something. We are back at <waiting for device>

EDIT #2: Not recognizing the device with adb. I am sensing it's the cable.

@totalrando Honestly it is all confusing when it comes to community builds. I have links to a bunch of different UBports repos on github and gitlab for the 6T. The only one with an installable image is the one i linked to.

@antidroid It's something else. As bizarre as this sounds it recognizes the device when it's in regular mode (it turned off file transfer and I had to turn it back on) but as soon as I go to bootloader it seems to "forget" that I had permissioned the computer.

@totalrando On the postmarket OS page for the 6T mentions this issue.
              Check the section about fastboot.
Edit: phone won't paste the new link. It just keeps pasting the ut link. Search postmarket os 6t

              https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/OnePlus_6_(oneplus-enchilada)

I had to restart the forum app i was using and the browser to get a new link copied.

@antidroid Yeah that confused me. It looks like my only solution is going to be to find another version of OOS 9. I'm closer though.

@totalrando I originally put postmarket os on my device. Using this installer.
                  https://github.com/calebccff/pmos-oneplus6

He is the same guy that pushes stuff to UBports 6T repo and halium repos as well as the guy that is mainlining the kernel for the SDM845 found in the 6T.

I wonder if his installer would work for you to at least install postmarketOS to test. You would still have to flash android 9 before Ubuntu Touch after testing postmarket. But if it works it would at least narrow down your issue to being UT specific.

@totalrando Another thing I just remebered I have read is usb3 ports can cause issues. Some people need to use a usb2 hub to force the system to use usb2. Other people have said they had to use a different computer entirely due to hardware not playng well with adb and fastboot. Like in the postmarket page saying fastboot and ryzen computers do not play well together.

@antidroid I was wondering if I install TWRP on the phone is it possible to just do it that way or would that break something?

@totalrando From my understanding the way Postmarket and the current method of installing Ubuntu Touch on the 6T use the boot partition that you would install TWRP to making them incompatible.

Once Ubuntu Touch has an official install on the 6T you will end up with Ubuntu Touch recovery menu but at this stage we only have Fastboot and Fastboot boot TWRP.img

Even if you break something trying to flash Ubuntu or Postmarket you should be able to use fastboot to switch slots and boot into Android to get back to a stable place to start from again.

                            Hi guys,

                            • In general, this is the documentation for the GSI that we know works: https://github.com/ubports-oneplus6/documentation. The GSI really only works on top of OOS 9 or LOS 16; you have to have a running android first.

                            • OP6/6T do not have a seperate recovery partition, which means that installing TWRP isn't very easy. To do this in android, you have to boot it first with 'fastboot boot' and then it knows how to install itself inside of the boot images. This of course doesn't work for Ubuntu Touch. You'll have to wait for me (or someone else) to figure out the recovery setup. Right now, it boots but it doesn't do ADB yet.

                            • PostmarketOS is a very different beast then Ubuntu Touch; it uses a mainline kernel, open drivers, alpine linux, and really resembles a traditional linux distro. It also doesn't use recovery for updates (it doesn't do OTA, but uses a traditional package manager). Installing postmarketOS is therefor also different (and doesn't require a running android) 🙂

                            Hope this helps!

@rogier-oudshoorn It took a few tries and some help (and remembering to sudo) but I HAS TOUCH ON FAJITA. Marking this solved!

First impressions: (the camera on this thing is unreal.) definitely almost ready for prime time if not already. Wow what a nice phone. Because I did really like the original background I went and downloaded it.

Fluffychat still doesn't work so I am just using Element. Webber doesn't quite always work. Not sure why. Neverball looks great on it, just wow. Very impressed with it.

@totalrando The image created for the OnePlus 6T was last updated in August so it is based on code from a somewhere around OTA-14 I think. A lot of the apps have been updated since then to work with newer OTA versions especially now with the QT update coming in the next OTA which mean they no longer work on the the old GSI since you can only install the latest version from the open store.

I asked about newer GSI in the OTA-16 announcement and was told they are not official at all and I need to contact the publisher of the GSI. I could not figure out who that was exactly for the 6T so I asked on GitHub in the repo and I am awaiting a response.

@antidroid cool. I think this thing is almost ready to push. Swiping apps is still tricky. Anyway, if you need me to do stuff to help push it let me know what to do.

I'm just saying my goodbyes to my Nexus 4 right now. (It served me well and was a good doggo.)

Try flicking down instead of up. It feels less intuitive but for myself I find it more reliable on the 6T right now.

Ok just did that. Weird experience. Imma stick with swiping up though. Just feels more right to me.

EDIT: Ok swiping down with thumb is better.
