[Porting] Call for Testers
-
hi everyone. i just bought a second-hand oneplus 5T device and would like to contribute with testing and anything. my background is not technically technical and I wonder how I could help you atm.
thanks for your response. -
@owwen Great! The OP5T port is almost finished, so its really a nice experience I think, so try to install it with installer (unlock bootloader first and format data with TWRP if there was Android on it before) and then come back and tell us what you find
-
I tried to install using the ubports installer but when trying to donwload the firmware it says there is a certificate error:
-
@owwen
May I ask what you paid for the phone and how old and used it was ?!I am considering this phone now since all this work is beeing done for it but I need more info like for example : What are my options when it comes to replacing the battery of the phone ?!
-
@nero355 FYI not who you asked, but I can also give you a data point: I recently bought a used one for roughly 110$ (roughly 1/3 of the price for a new one currently as far as I saw). The previous owner used it for 1.5 years and as far as I can tell it still works perfectly fine.
-
@paju1986 Did you check the firmware option? Try without. Thats an external server maybe
-
I have found three OnePlus 5T phones that might be interesting to buy but the prices are a bit high so I really need my previous questions answered : https://forums.ubports.com/topic/5594/porting-call-for-testers/101?_=1639753177932
I can ofcourse ask if the sellers are willing to lower their prices but before I do that I would like to know if it's interesting at all to start my OnePlus 5T adventure ?!
-
-
@flohack That did the trick! Thanks you. Installed and all working well.
-
I have been trying ubuntu touch on my OnePlus 5T for some time now.
Some of the thing i have encounter:
-
Bluetooth earbuds dont work, they can pair but no sound comes from them but from main speaker.
-
Fingerprint works on setting you fingerprint, but there is no way to unlock the phone with it, it simply dont allow you to enable that option
-
The notification led sometimes seem to work but most of the time doesnt work.
-
-
@paju1986 In my case, my bluetooth headphones work just fine. (Im on the dev channel, maybe there were changes related to audio playback recently)?
I can confirm the fingerprint issue though - I am able to add a fingerprint, but it can not be activeated (the respective option at "System settings -> Security & Privacy -> Locking and unlocking -> Lock security" is greyed out. The fingerprint is reported on the device page as not working though.. Is someone around who would know how to fix this?

Anyone who can give me any info about the above ?!
-
-
@ra yeah I gave up on the fingerprint. When any print is registered Android does not inform us about that and so UT thinks there are no prints at all. So you can register but not enable ^^

Sorry, what exactly is the question again?
-
@moem the only question I can see is about battery replacement possibilities of the OP5T. Possible but not the easiest.

My search engine of choice gave me
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/OnePlus+5T+Battery+Replacement/102745
I guess that answers it. As you say, possible but not the easiest. -

It's right there quoted in my reply ?!
Anyway... nevermind now since this news is out : https://forums.ubports.com/topic/7036/waydroid-on-oneplus-5t/13
I will keep looking around for a different phone then!

You're welcome, I'm glad I could help by answering your question about the possibility of battery exchange on the Oneplus 5t. My pleasure.

@moem
Mmm... sarcasm! NICE! -
@nero355 Just saying the port is finished for the 5T and 5, today I added Waydroid patches. There is no reason to not use the device as daily just because I am not able to change stuff ^^ we have had devices in the past where there was no need to change anything for years. After all its only about getting all hardware features to work.
As it has kernel 4.4 or so its also likely to be compatible with 20.04 later - its a good device, and the one with the least power drain I ever had in my hands

Will there ever be a time when you can say even to the most novice users that they can buy phones A+B+C+D+E without any issue because those phones are currently maintained by a couple of developers who will make sure that any bugs get wiped a.s.a.p. so that the phones are 99,99% reliable daily devices running Ubuntu Touch ?!
I was kind of hoping we were heading that way a bit with mainly your own recent ports of the Google Pixel and OnePlus 5/5T phones ??
Currently it's either buy a very old phone from someone and hope it still works or buy a new expensive Volla Phone which doesn't work as it should yet but is more or less useable...
As it has kernel 4.4 or so its also likely to be compatible with 20.04 later - its a good device, and the one with the least power drain I ever had in my hands
Hmm... OK... thanks for the info!
