Ubuntu Touch Q&A 121 will be Saturday 19th Nov at 19:00 UTC. It's been some time since the last one so we are sure you will have a few questions and we will have the latest Ubuntu Touch updates and developments. Forum questions will get priority so post them here before the event or during the live show using Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7h9O0yuzvw or Telegram.

Please remember that questions on porting to device **** or it's status, and questions on bugs will not be answered

First off thanks for everything you all do. Ubuntu Touch is great.

I wanted to ask for those who are interested in developing apps, is it better to just develop apps for focal or will xenial still be around for a long time?
Also, is there any kind of ETA on when Waydroid and adding nextcloud account will be available for focal?

          Many Thanks!

Are there plans for more devices to be "promoted" to the Promoted section on the website, or for more devices to be sold with UT pre-installed (e.g. Volla)?

Can you tell us how the integration of extended support for Ubuntu 16.04 went and what it means for both developers and users of Ubuntu Touch?

                Hello!

Just wanna put my 'say' out there and add a 'Thank You' for all you do on contributing to this project and keeping it and the 'linux phone community' alive.

Here's some personal context for my question, feel free to skip this:

I've been in love with the idea of plugging in a phone to a monitor/hub and using it as a "all in one device" that you can easily carry around with you.
( Akin to a Nintendo Switch almost. )

I've been a big fan of this concept since around 2016-ish with stuff like the Pinephone, Librem 5, Maru OS, Samsung Dex, Windows Phone Convergence, etc etc.

I have a Pinephone but I kinda always overestimate what devices are capable of... and using it with it's short battery life kinda scares me off from using it much often. lol 😅

                [Question]

I have been trying to keep my "hype"/expectations in check since the
Fairphone 4 port was announced somewhat recently back. Do you think once it's ready, that that phone would be the best for my intended use-case?

Are there any short-comings I should be aware of?
( If not, then why are more people not talking about this FP4 port like I am? )

                  To Alfred

Good presentation at the ubuntu summit.
How was the reception afterward, were people interested in the project?
I was hoping you'd be using the jingpad for it, that would have blown peoples mind. :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@ubportsnews As always, a big thank you to all developers and participants. - I got the impression that testing didn't go so well this time. Are there any thoughts to make testing of the OTAs easier? So that more non-developers can participate more easily?
                    Best regards!

This is a kind of special question, but is cell broadcasting (at least in the developer Version) supported? The warning system in germany wants to include cell broadcast into their systems and for that send a test message on 8th december. Would be a good chance to test it.

On the move to 20.04, it looks really good and runs very smoothly. Can we have a rejig of core apps (yeah I know I would love to do it myself) and make the core apps (for example):
                        Phone
                        Messaging
                        Camera
                        Browser
                        App Store
                        Terminal
                        File manager
                        Email Client (Dekko)??

I have taken feedback from family members and this seems to be the popular things needed for basic (?) usage these days.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7.... And more...
                        I have too many devices...

I am a big fan of the new design in 20.04.
The transparency effects make Ubuntu Touch look much more modern without sacrificing much performance.
