current state and hardware requirements for convergence?
-
Hi all
As the title says, what's the current status of convergence for the FP4, and possibly focal in general?
https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/fp4/release/focal no longer(?) mentions support for convergence. I think the "display out" tag replaced the convergence tag. If so does that mean convergence is technically supported as in the hardware is there, or as in the software is ready and it's usable as well?I assume I'd need either a usb-c dock or one of the newer usb-c dock like monitors with a usb hub?
thanks

@gandalf said in current state and hardware requirements for convergence?:

That is because convergence is not a hardware feature, but a software feature, which Lomiri has supported from the start, and certain apps do too. Convergence is the ability of the Lomiri shell and those apps to adapt their user interface to different form factors and configurations. In that way it is up to the app developers to write their software with convergence in mind.
I think the "display out" tag replaced the convergence tag.
Correct, this is in an attempt to clear up the confusion between convergence and display out, which was not helped by the name of the tag.
I assume [to make use of display-ou] I'd need either a usb-c dock or one of the newer usb-c dock like monitors with a usb hub?
That is correct.

Thanks for the clarification
