I watched a YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ValkTii8KLg, and also checked this page https://ubports.com/en/blog/ubports-news-1/post/ubuntu-touch-q-a-118-3853, it says "It is compatible with Miracast, the Microsoft version.".

So I tried with my old dongle, but it doesn't work, I thought maybe it is the dongle which is too old and I can't find its manual (so not sure whether it supports Miracast or not).

So I bought this guy from Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/SmartSee-Wireless-Mirroring-Receiver-Projector/dp/B07QDLNGFZ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2VIG4MZ1X9NTH&keywords=anycast+m2&qid=1703934915&sprefix=anycast+m2%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

It is very frustrating that it is still not working! Google Pixel 3a can find the dongle, but when screencasting, the display flashes and fails.

Did I miss some info? Could someone shed some light here?
        Thank you!

          @thomas-pcheng You are:

          1. Running Xenial (16.04) and not focal (20.04)
          2. Turned off Bluetooth
          3. Set it to work at 720p and not at 1080p

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7.... And more...
          I have too many devices...

@thomas-pcheng Miracast on UT has only been reported to reliably work with Microsoft dongles and Samsung TV's. Although I also got it to work with the Miracast app on a no-name Android TV box.

With anything else, your mileage may vary.

What is your TV model ?

My focal pixel 3a (20.04), the Miracast of my Sony TV model KD43X720E functions as your first web link.

The only problem all is very small looked.

                Thank you!
My TV doesn't support cast. I bought a Miracast dongle as shown in the third link.

I tried both 16.04 and 20.04 without Bluetooth.
But the dongle only supports 1080p.

@arubislander said in Miracast Google Pixel 3a fails:

                    Microsoft dongles

                    Thank you!
By saying Microsoft dongle, do you mean this one https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wireless-Display-Adapter-Hdmi/dp/B01C9YTI9S/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1CH2TN7990F5S&keywords=microsoft%2Bmiracast%2Bdongle&qid=1704018118&sprefix=microsoft%2Bmiracast%2B%2Caps%2C145&sr=8-3&th=1?

And Could you tell me which Miracast app do you use?

@thomas-pcheng I have no first-hand knowledge of Microsoft dongles. I am just sharing what has been reported. Maybe a search on the forum might give you some hits.

The app was a custom preinstalled app on the TV Box. It is not available in the PlayStore (I searched for it to no avail)
