Upgrade to 5T - app questions
-
Hi all,
I'm looking at replacing my UT Oneplus One with a Oneplus 5T.
I like the OPO, but as support steadily ceases for apps compatible with the UT OS at a compatible version for the OPO, I now need something newer that will work better.
So before I spend on a handset, can someone please give me a reliability / useability opinion on the following apps and features on the Oneplus 5T running UT:
- Axolotl signal client.
- Telegram client.
- Wire client (there was a webapp on the OPO).
- Email client.
- Calendar client (reliability of synching to / from CALdav server).
- File explorer with server/NAS remote SSH access.
- Terminal, if i switch from terminal to web browser, does the keyboard always come back on screen? (bug on the OPO).
- Bluetooth for headsets, and for music.
- 3.5mm jack microphone (this never worked on the OPO).
- VPN, will this re-connect automatically?
Many thanks, Scott

@scottbouch Most of these do not depend on the device, but I have a Op5t as my daily driver and I'll tell you what I know:
-
Signal: Axolotl2 works as a secondary device. I have it linked to Signal for Android, runninjg on Waydroid, and which is generally not on and doesn't need to be. Axolotl2 is for now limited in features but it does work. Combine it with an installation of Signal on desktop or laptop, and you'll have all the features you need. It has notifications.
-
Telegram: TELEports works fine. Similarly, combine it with a desktop version of TG to get feature-completeness. It has notifications even when not running.
-
Bluetooth: can be finicky, just like on OpO. It's not worse. I use if for several different smartwatches.
All in all I feel that the Op5t makes for a very decent upgraden from the OpO.

@scottbouch I use DEKKO2 on my OP5T and it works fine with my accounts. TELEports works.

Have you experience of the email client too?
No, just the ones I mentioned.

Thank you guys, so over all it seems like a potential win for daily use then.
Thank you!

Hi, just one further queation, on my OPO, i could nevr get SFTP to work in the file manager, to connect to my servers so I can offload photos etc..
SSH in the terminal worked well, but the file manager just couldnt do it, no matter what I tried.
Does anyone have any experience with the OP5 and recent OS version with the file manager using SFTP to access remote servers?
Thanks, Scitt
