Camera with flash setting auto very slow

I've experienced on FP3 and 4, that with camera flash setting auto, it takes ca. 5 seconds to take a picture. If flash is turned off, the picture is taken instantly. Does anyone have a similiar eperience? Is there an improvement possible?
