@luby Please talk is through the steps that you took and the error messages that you received. I believe it is best to start on latest stock Google firmware and the device switched on and booted up before you start the Ubuntu Touch installation.

Yes I did as exactly as you suggested...with bootloader unlocked and debugging enabled. Everything seems to start
then I get this message:
Unable to Mount Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi
Unable to open MPT device "[usb:002,010]"
Both Nexus 7's gave the same message.
The installation ends with that message on Linux Mint
and the brown Ubuntu screen on the Nexus 7.
The Ubuntu screen says...
Ubuntu Touch (CWM-based) Recovery v6.0.4.6
and gives me options...all of which I have tried.
The very last line of the Ubuntu terminal reads...
E: Can't open /cashe/recovery/last_installHave also tried to install ubuntu-device-flash after getting the repository from repo.ubports.com and then
apt install ubuntu.device.flash
But it always ends with...
E: unable to locate package ubuntu.device.flashI can try to show you screen shot photos if there is a way to post them here.

This hasnt been fixed yet, so let me help. I had the same issue, but fixed it by using.deb instead of appimage

I discover today your difficulties to install ubuntu touch on the nexus 7 flo. I propose you the procedure which allowed me to install UT on my nexus 7 flo. I attach my post dated November 14, 2020.Hello to All,
After several months of failed installation of ubuntu touch on my nexus 7 flo, I come back to you to report the success (finally!) of the installation on my device.
To do this, I had to reinstall the stock version of android on the nexus 7.
While browsing xda developers, I found a tool to repair and factory reset the Nexus 7 2013: restock2.zip .
In addition to repair options, restock2 installs reliable usb drivers (my usb connection was unstable under xubuntu 20.04).
For installation and use you need a windows operating system.
Extract restock2.zip
Device plugged in and bootloader open, just double click on the "restock.bat" file and follow the whole installation procedure (well documented procedure on xda).
Resetting the device is quite long, you have to be patient...
With the rom stock open, you have to set up the develop mode.
Then ubports-installer does the job.
Not having much left to lose, I used this procedure "blind" and I am surprised and very satisfied with the result.
On the forums, I realized that I'm not the only one impacted by the difficulty of installing UT on nexus 7 flo ... If my experience as a novice can help some people, so much the better!

I have a Nexus 7 2013 (Flo) currently running Linage OS 17.1. I would quite like to install and try out UT to see what it is like.
Having read the above I am now unsure if I can use the UT installer directly or if I need too to go through the same procedure as @Macadam above?

Another note for other reading here - I had a lot of trouble with the installer running in ubuntu, but it worked great from windows. Fwiw and ymmv.
Don't forgot to restore the stock partitioning on your n7 if you have re-partitioned for larger system partition for the newer android builds. You'll see file copy errors with the modified partition layout.

@brianrh I had an error installing so I just unhooked and wiped the cache on the next try.. it then installed proper, I bought my N7 Flo used and it was running Android 6.

@Brianrh If it runs Android, can I have you install a terminal emulator and check: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/trying-to-recreate-entire-partition-table-for-nexus-7-2013-flo.3881263/post-78581593 , especially if you're on 17.1, pretty sure 17+ use the FloX packages which require the repartitioning.
If your results don't match up, then you may need to find the "back to stock partitioning" recovery package from the Flo forums over at XDA.
Not sure if Restock returns it to the stock partition layout or not, FloX was very recently introduced iirc.
