I've noticed that my vollaphone, for most of the time, the wifi networks forgets it already has connected to.
Also, the transition from mobile to wifi, or vice versa, makes an app like, for instance podbird, to stop working.
Quite annoying and maybe something that will get fixed down the road?

I am having the same experience here (on vollaphone) with wifi reconnecting or loss of mobile data connection.
most of the time when asked to retype the password of the wifi again , you can push cancel and reselect your old wifi out of the list of available wifi's and it reconnects automaticaly without entering the password again. the loss of mobile data connection is sometimes inconvinient.

Same experience on OnePlus 3T so this might not be related to the type of device

Reconnecting works just like @mojones pointed out, this should be addressed though

            Same on Pixel3a ...

            Regular wifi drops and ...
futify (Spotify media player) won't hand off from WIFI to Cell Data without flushing the app (swipe away) and restarting it.

Can you tell, if the WiFi, where you encounter this problems, is a 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz mixed WiFi?
I got the impression that a "single frequency"-WiFi is more stable than a mixed one.

                Good point.
By default my router automatically assigns frequency bands so I assume that to be in the 'mixed' category. Some devices in my network support 5GHz and some don't and are on 2,4GHz frequecy band.

OnePlus 3T is assigned with the 2,4GHz now.

2.4GHz is more stable while 5GHz has much better speed?

@3t_ed usually 2.4Ghz has more range, while 5Ghz is faster.
But that was not my point.
In my router, I can configure if I want to have 2 seperate wifi-accespoints for each frequency, or if I want to have only one accespoint and the devices and/or the router are deciding dynamically which frequency will be used.
My impression is, that the issues described by jimpson, are happening if my router is configured to only provide one accesspoint for both frequencies.
