Hardware issues with installing...

I can now confirm to:
a) use Ubuntu (or Linux as Ubuntu is my choice) to install.
b) have many micro USB cables to hand and use the paper trick which is to fold a piece of paper and insert it in the bottom of the USB connector when you plug it in. This holds it in tight and stops the ADB hanging error.

Hardware wise, these phones are ancient so will have a fair amount of wear and tear.

Being Samsung, the screen is really good, but prone to image burn, so make sure you set it to sleep after 30 seconds on non-usage.
