FYI : This belongs in the https://forums.ubports.com/category/91/xiaomi sub-forum but I can't start a topic there because of some weird reason...
So if you are a moderator : Please move it there! πŸ™‚

        Now...

The reason for this topic :

A while ago I have been busy with flashing a Community Build of Jolla Sailfish on my Xiaomi Mi 9T which I bought used for two reasons :

        • Experience Jolla Sailfish
        • Have a spare phone that works with LineageOS so that when my ZUK Z2 Pro or BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone are completely dead I still have a useable phone! πŸ™‚

        Aaaaand... it's pretty! :grinning_squinting_face:
Wish all phones looked like it! πŸ˜‰

During this adventure I have encountered the following pages :

        • https://github.com/ubports-on-davinci/builds/releases/tag/v0.2

I got these links from this topic @ XDA Developers Forum : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/sailfishos-on-redmi-k20-mi-9t-beta.4062983/page-3#post-82793245

So if I understand correctly :
It's possible to run Ubuntu Touch on the Xiaomi Mi 9T thanks to the GSI Build made by this mythical/legendary developer Erfan who's name pops up everywhere when it comes to GSI Builds ?!

        But... :

        • Why are the GSI Builds related links dead ?
        • I have read today that Erfan has been involved with the WayDroid Project so perhaps that was the reason to drop the GSI Builds for this phone : So he can focus entirely on WayDroid ?!

Who can help me with getting a bit more information about this ??

The Jolla Sailfish Community Build has a batterydrain issue so replacing it with Ubuntu Touch and having a new phone that is useable as a daily instead of the BQ Ubuntu Phone and probably has SystemD Support for the future Ubuntu 20.04 LTS base would be damn sweet! πŸ˜„

        My phones :

        • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
        • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x
        • Xiaomi Mi 9T - Jolla SailFish 3.4.x Community Build

        P.S. : I am NOT a developer! ;)

@nero355 Hi, I moved your post as per your request.

About the GSI Images, as far as I know those are now unmaintained and based on an old Ubuntu Touch image. They also do not receive OTA updates, so you would be stuck on the old version it came with.

Thnx for moving it to the right sub-forum! πŸ™‚

But is there any chance that the development of the GSI Builds will be continued or renewed so everything is based on the latest code and full OTA support ??

I am really lost at the moment when it comes to finding a new phone that's pleasant to look at and is compatible with the future 20.04 LTS OTA stuff 😒

            My phones :

            • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
            • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x
            • Xiaomi Mi 9T - Jolla SailFish 3.4.x Community Build

@nero355 said in Xiaomi Mi 9T (EEA) and the GSI Build for Ubuntu Touch:

As with all things open source, if someone steps in to pick it up, it might be possible. But my understanding is that the effort has been discontinued by the original author. And there is no one who has expressed interest to pick it up. So I would say it would be better to look elsewhere, unless you have, or are willing to develop, the skills needed to work on this solution.

@nero355 Hello, you still have your Mi 9T on Sailfish? I really want to Install it... If you still on it I want to know your user experience with this OS? Many thanks.
