Gallery dates

This might not be a Pixel 3a issue, may be a more general issue, so feel free to move to the correct forum if so.
When someone sends me a picture, and i download it to the gallery, the date that the gallery is telling me is a day behind. For example, i received a pic through MMS two days ago. I saved it to Gallery today (December 6). But when i look at it in Gallery, it's listed under December 5. This seems to be occuring for every picture that i've downloaded from Messages- it's always listed as a day behind. But my phone's date is correctly set.
Is this a bug or am i misunderstanding something here?
