Suru Icons - A Call For Collaboration?

Hello everybody!
My name is Mads and I'm working with the Yaru team (community team) on the Ubuntu desktop.
As you might know, we are also using the beautiful Suru icons. Although this icon set isn't complete (does such a thing as a complete icon set even exist?), the work has send us off to a good start.
Sadly, the repo has not seen much activity lately and we have found ourselves missing some crucial icons. Luckily some members of our community has stepped in and have already done an awesome job!I'm creating this thread here, with the hope that there might be some work which we can cooperate around.

@madsrh Well there does appear to be a rich seam of creativity and skill here! May fruitful collaboration happen.

thanks for sharing this. is Suru still excluding 3rd part icons? because I drew a few for myself that could be useful, but idk if there could be license problems... let me know if you're interested in them. -

I've been thinking about reacting out to you guys for a while, but it wasn't until the icon for 2048 was suggested in your repo and I remembered seeing it here, that it was clear to me, that we might be doing the same work

We're still very much discussing this because it's a HUGE task.We're also exploring other options for application that we haven't yet created suru icons for. @madsrh The only problem I have now is the license... I'm not expert of them and I don't remember where I took the original image to make them in Suru style, should I check if there's an available source image with free license? also where can I check the license?

Hi @mymike I really don't know much about licenses - are these the icones you are shipping? Perhaps just share the images at first and if there's some icons we would like to use, we can spend the time investigating the license.

Perhaps what's needed is an agreed list of mutually beneficial desired app icons, in some sort of order of priority... -

I'm so sorry for the late reply! Just to let you know what's going on:
As Carlo wrote in the PR, the icon stuff is on pause because it's a burning hot topic atm. and there's many things to consider.More info about the heated discussion can be found here, but I can try to boil it down for you:
- Gnome upstream wants us to ship their new icons
- Not to belittle Gnomes work, but we think the suru icons looks better
- Upstream icons are optimized to scale best at 32px. The dock in Ubuntu is 48px
- We would like to ship only suru icons but Snaps will keep their original cross distro icon
- If we want suru icons, it will be a HUGE task
- We are not icon designers - we simply tried to pick up the pieces to move the project along
- We (the Yaru team) do not make the final call, Canonical will
So in short, we might go all suru or full upstream or we might do a mix - we don't know atm. Anyway, the icon work is paused for now. It was bad timing of me, to reach out to you - sorry!
