Is there a way to install Ubuntu Touch in a VM?

Is there a way to install Ubuntu Touch in a VM? I want to test it out before I buy a device just to install it.
I saw an old guide which uses ubuntu-emulator, but I'm assuming that it is deprecated as I am unable to install the emulator.I have also been unable to find a guide, but my google-fu might be the reason.

No there is no current emulator/VM image to run.

Unfortunatly the Ubuntu Touch emulator is not maintained anymore, but you can find some videos on internet.
You can in Europe have a compatible device for less than 100€
