Anbox & OTA-10 update
-
Hi,
I've been running UT and anbox on my OPO because I need to be able to use signal messenger daily. I was wondering if I can update to OTA-10 and still have anbox functioning? If I need to reinstall anbox, will I lose my contacts stored in there? How do I go about this? Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure how the android bit works in anbox, but if you use a remote backup like nextcloud, then you can use davdroid to sync contacts, and have them restored if you reinstall davdroid. But, I think there is a separate backup(import/export) feature for signal. If not, then you might lose those conversations since they are encrypted.
There is also a Signal app for UT: https://open-store.io/app/textsecure.nanuc
It's not complete, but it works, and you can get notifications with a few tweaks. -
Android apps and data of anbox are not lost on OTA updates, they reside somewhere below
/home/phablet
.
You will have to reflash the anbox kernel and also install the anbox packages to the rootfs again.
Then, after enabling anbox with the anbox-tool it should all be there. -

Is it somehowe possible to get notifications without having the app open in the background?

It's a bit a workaround to get notifications on signal, but it goes like this:- Get UT Tweak Tool: https://open-store.io/app/ut-tweak-tool.sverzegnassi
- Open UT Tweak Tool -> Input Password -> press the menu -> app scopes -> Signal -> Turn on "Prevent app suspension"
- Open Signal, in each conversation for which you want notifications you open the conversation -> menu - > turn on notifications
- leave the signal app open and running the background and you should receive notifications when messages come in.
It's definitely got some quirks...
