I've been doing some background research into the feasibility of porting Ubuntu Touch to the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact for some time now and am ready to give it a shot. This past week I've been trying to access the git repositories at https://code-review.phablet.ubuntu.com/ using https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices/minato as a guide but have not been able to successfully sync the repositories. I always end up getting some form of the following fetch error:

      Fetching projects: 77% (137/177) Fetching project aosp/platform/hardware/qcom/display
fatal: Couldn't find remote ref refs/heads/personal/w-ondra/phablet-xperia_5.1.1_r5
      Unexpected end of command stream

error: Exited sync due to fetch errors

Anyone else working on building an Ubuntu Touch image and having issues access this gerrit server? I know that Sony provides all the AOSP binaries for their phones so this should be a completely feasible port.

Yes, this needs to be added to the list.

Incognegro, How much do you think it would cost to purchase & develop all of the porting for the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact ? (including all expenses)

I have been using Ubuntu Linux since about 9.04 and have a moderate amount of experience with the Android OS structure so while it will take some time, I'm confident I can finish this project. Estimating the amount of development time needed at this time will be difficult though. So far I have managed to buy a used Z5 Compact for 250€ and am just wrapping up creating a custom git manifest file that references Sony, CyanogenMod (cm-13.0), AOSP (android-6.0.1_r24) and the necessary Ubuntu-specific repositories. I initially tried to simply sync the git repository found in these steps (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices/minato) but after a week of trying to debug this process I figured out this repository is simply not up-to-date and it would be easier to use the associated manifest file as a template upon which to develop my own updated manifest file (approx. 7-8 hours in total so far). After this is finished I will move on to compiling a Sony's AOSP kernel patched with AppArmor 3.0. I think at that point I'll have an image together barring me compiling a bad kernel (fingers crossed).

I'll provide an update in a couple days.

I have a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact and particularly hope that I can run native linux on my phone.
It is really lucky to find this post just after I determine to work on this.
My target is to automate the whole downloading, building process, and integrate the script into my project fpemud-umake.

It looks like there is already a port for the z5 compact
              @ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices/minato
It just appeared last month, so the OP in this thread was not aware at the time of his posting , I was following the xperia ubuntu porting heavily cuz I have a Z1 that I want to put ubuntu on but it doesn't look stable enough to be useful at the moment.
