Calls not working on recently opened Pinephone. Is this normal? What can I do from here?

Are phone calls not working in general, or is there a fix I need to apply?
I tried sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade and it is telling me that updating in this way is insecure. "'http://repo.ubports.com xenial_-edge-_mesa Release' does not have a release file."

there is an update option in the "settings"No luck there, try Mobian on an SDcard just to prove its not the phone ...

Ya --- calls are still "failing" after the update. I've never messed with phones loading different operating systems.
