Pinephone: steps after swapping in a new mainboard revision
-
Following the steps and the youtube video on pinephone wiki, I successfully swapped the mainboard. After that I have put the ubuntu image and the system seems to be working correctly. However the wiki then states:
"After swapping the mainboard the ANX chip has to be flashed for full USB functionality. "
This does not work (and cannot work) on ubuntu touch. At least not the way it is described there. Do I need to do this update? And if yes, how?

@thepossessor Do you have a link to the instructions?
My Pinephone and new mainboard have been sitting in a drawer for the past month, and I came here because I was planning to do the swap tonight.

@giiba the instructions can be found here: pine64 wiki

I can't answer the question and this is the first I have heard about the requirement to flash the ANX chip, so thanks for the post! I had already worked on the previous motherboard removing the troublesome components so didn't need instructions to fit the new one. Or so I thought. Always read the instructions, yes?
Anyway I flashed UT and all seemed ok'ish. Manjoro Beta3 is on the emmc at the mo. Tried following the pine64 ANX flashing instructions using the same Manjaro on sd card but wget command not recognised.
I'll be trying PMOS and phosh on sd card next. Guess it may affect the os installed on emmc?
This post on pine64 forum has some insights

@ziggutas Thanks for your hint to use PMOS for doing this.
I now updated the firmware using an SD card with PMOS. At least I think I did - I got no error messages while doing so.
In UT I see no evidence of a new firmware. this could be normal since the ANX firmware update is in relation with "Digital video to USB-C bridge" which is not really supported on current UT version yet.
What I am still not sure about is if need to integrate this somehow into UT or if this was a one time thing. Often such firmwares will be automatically (re-)loaded by the linux kernel if a matching firmware is found. Even if it is older.
Anyways thanks again @ziggutas .

@thepossessor With PMOS on sdcard and Manjaro on the emmc I tried many times to follow the pine64 hints to flash ANX but got no out put or responses to indicate anything was happening (turns out that's normal) so also followed the prompt to dmesg. And redirect to a file 'cos too difficult/laborious to look at on device.
It wasn't working in that set up, so followed another guy's post to use mobian/phosh on on sdcard. No terminal output, but after a while dmesg output showed no errors or comments in the process right up to 'power down' or something. So it looked complete.
I don't understand the tech stuff here but my main motivation in this is thinking that it will make usb connection possible to file manager on pc.
Anyhow , after that I re-plugged the phone whilst still in mobian and and got connected to pc.
Next: Flashed UT to emmc to see if if it would work there also, but no.
Flashed mobian to emmc. usb connection to ubuntu on pc straightforward and easy. Just right for me!
I'm not sure it was the ANX flashing that did it...but it's the first time after lots of mucking about that I can just connect to pc with usb and copy files , so ...
